      The limit is not 256, it's 1024... Also, the 3 bytes accounts for rotation, block health/damage, the ID, and the on/off state for logic. (On/off state and some of the damage values are sometimes co-opted for other things, but that is besides the point)

      If I understand your idea correctly, that means no more building bases on planets because bases would use ship blocks (Planets would use the same values for other things), and no more asteroid materials as floors because they belong to asteroids. Whut?

      They shouldn't be on the galaxy map in the first place. Not until someone scans you down. But even then only their galaxy map would show it; they would have to give someone their copy of the system map for another person to see it.

      Only for homebases, and each faction can only have one homebase. All other stations can be destroyed if their shields and structural integrity are brought to zero.

      Oh hey, I did that too. That's a good idea, actually, although mine is more purely for background lore and less for the faction as it exists on StarMade (because that faction will change repeatedly during the course of the game's development).

      There is a lot of metadata that doesn't get saved with designs or can't be modified for one reason or another; I think this falls into that category.

      As long as it fits the rules you can have them horizontally if you like. I routinely build shuttle construction bays this way.
