A regular icosahedron could work, but again it's a lot of entities, and the way it splits up building can be a pain in the arse for large-scale...

      Personally, I positively HATE the current rail switching mechanic, but given the lack of a better solution for that, I suppose this wouldn't be a bad idea. The hull thing sounds weird though and may not be very feasible.

      ...As if StarMade doesn't have grinding too? If it weren't for planets (which lag servers anyway) or custom configs, mining would be a nigh-intolerable grind, and unchanging, and unending... bluh... At least an experience-type grind would be leading to some definite end.

      Well, at least disc planets didn't routinely kill servers and were large enough to build decent-looking cities/towns on. Doesn't mean I like them, and I'd rather keep D12s until we can come up with something better - disc planets were unacceptably ugly, and allowed for silly things like hangars...

      The thing is, these problems are minimal and can almost all be rectified by features. Ships drifting away already is barely a problem seeing as they stop as soon as they hit an unloaded sector (and contrary to what Schema said, they do not keep going afterwards); some kind of passive antidrift...

      Yes, Puppy, but have you ever tried playing on a huge planet yourself? Unless you have a higher-end gaming computer, it ain't fun. Furthermore, bigger planets take ages to load and just generally are awkward sometimes...

      Minecraft is a sandbox game too. It has armor and weapon tiers, and then later-game tiers of enchantments, potion effects, new dimensions and materials, etc., all gated or effectively gated by the tier before them, without sacrificing a feeling of freedom. Still, it has a solid progression...
