It actually bothers me that the space between galaxies has so many pirates. It doesn't make sense that this vast empty void between lands contains thousands of pirate stations.

Honestly the target diamond of a station should be the faction block and not the first block placed, a lot of the time the diamond ends up being empty space which makes it harder to hit with missiles.
Killing pirates is reason enough for me, I like a challenge. If you don't like the challenge then avoid pirate sectors. If it's a simple "they get bigger the farther you go" solution than your only option is to stay in the center of the galaxy.

Take out the turrets, find the faction module while in build mode, target said location, initiate surgical strike. So far I've only managed to take out one of the new stations as I don't have a warship yet in my survival world but I've found the faction module on at least one other.

You are still limited by the max distanced ships will render which should be less than the max range of the missiles. This gives them a chance to chase targets.
Missiles have a 1.6x multiplier to range based on the servers sector size. With default settings this should be 9,600 not 20,000

I'm pretty sure at least one of the stations has missiles. I was running around scouting out stations and I died randomly sitting out at 4k away from the station and never saw a shot (invisible missile bug). I know another one of the stations has sniper turrets so lurking close is not a good...
