It's not so much shields as AI difficulty and pilot skill... well only shields will protect you in case of invisible nukes so I just avoid pirate station alpha but all the others are fairly easy to cleanse of turrets.
Everybody is assuming a lot about rails. You can bet I will make lots of logic based contraptions with rails when they come out. Until then I don't know how they function, or will function so I refuse to speculate. Also I don't think good old gravity elevators will ever be completely replaced.

The problem is everybody builds breadnaughts designed for one hit kills. Every one of my ships can take a pounding from each other after shields are lost because they are designed as RP ships. With full interiors there is a lot of space to jam shields but not large weapon systems. Can I PVP...
It really does make a huge difference. Pirates that can't hit you are easy to fight when you are outnumbered. You can get nice and close and pick your shots. A single pirates with sniper accuracy will core drill you if you are not in a better ship.

Well there's your problem... changing that many connections is bound to slow down the game. I'm not sure why it was okay before but not now. Also remember, tab f6 is going to slow the game down more. I believe all that does is tell the server to re-send chunks from the server to the client...
