A Solution To Flying Spaghetti Monsters

The problem is really what kind of design is being forced. Current stabilizer mechanics, even with conduits, force long designs over chunkier ones, which just makes everyone's ships boring long things and reduces the potential for creativity in ship hull design for no logical reason. This, on...

A Solution To Flying Spaghetti Monsters

Well, I hit 'agree,' but there's basically no way in hell this is going to get implemented. I don't know if the conduit thickness calculations are even possible, and if they are, then regardless, some people (incl. in Schine) seem pretty squeamish about the addition of conduits for some reason I...

Thought experiment/discussion on power 2.0 hull shape

While that may follow the rules, it's pretty shitposty. That is far above the requirements for a reactor of that size... Any advantage of that configuration applies to ships in the current set of mechanics as well, and the disadvantages (turn rate, exposed lines that are detrimental to break)...

Thought experiment/discussion on power 2.0 hull shape

Looks like that thing doesn't match the guidelines in the OP. Just a very, very slight discrepancy. Hard to notice. :P (that said, the OP guidelines don't make any sense; those limits have nothing to do with the constraints on an actual SM ship design)

      Power system adjustments.

Well, dumbbells, double-bricks with thinner (or no) connectors, and other similar shapes. Possibly just columns/long bricks if power consumption per block on some things is low enough. Regardless of the actual arrangement, imagine a big reactor and chambers at the back, big stabilizer group at...

      Power system adjustments.

It was unpopular because the implementation was ill-thought out; it was going to come in the form of silly boxes and the end result would be that people would build 'chandelier' or 'cloud' arrangements with the systems spaced far from the reactor to mitigate heat damage. This heat mechanic would...

Thought experiment/discussion on power 2.0 hull shape

I'm not really getting this. There's no real-world scenario where you're restricted by the number of reactor and stabilizer blocks; the normal constraining factor is simply the total mass or volume, or occasionally the amount of armour blocks.

      Altered reactor config

Yeah, but they could have added the crew systems first, so that we at least have a better idea as to what that system's space requirements are... Rebalancing systems after that would make a little more sense. If they needed the chamber effect system to be up and running for crew bonuses to...

      Power system adjustments.

IDK about you, but I'll be here in a year... I'd much rather deal with filling up empty space in ships now (which I always end up with a good amount of, even when I build lots of interior) and end up with near-parity to the equivalent doombrick, and then make changes in a year for a good system...

      Reactor Chamber effects

That would require mechanical changes to transporters... also, I thought this was a game about spaceships, not magically teleporting between planets/stations?

A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

That's not a solution, that's a goal. A solution would be a system that achieves a goal. :P My system sorta does that, though odd shapes are relatively easy to fit. That's a good thing, though, IMO. An interesting hull shape shouldn't be punished with extra work to fit systems, if it isn't...

      Reactor Chamber effects

I assume this implies that larger turrets would be given a slower rotation rate to start with, in addition to that targeting delay, and... SO MUCH YES on both counts.

A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

Yeah, this is the main issue, I suppose. Old power was a pain in the ass because it would have you use weird parallel power snakes, but that also allowed more power per volume in a typical ship than my proposal. I guess this could be partly mitigated by giving each stabilizer block a certain...

A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

No, because it's much less annoying to lay out, and the new power distribution system (distribution priority queue, generation-based power) would remain. Also, technically, the explosions would be a reuse and rebalancing of aux mechanics, so that isn't even an exception :P

A possible alternative stabilizer mechanic, using an existing algorithm.

This one's pretty simple and straightforward, and while I'm not sure about it myself I wanted to see what everyone else thinks: What if stabilizers used a variant of the old power reactor mechanics? Basically, a stabilizer group would have to touch the reactor, and certain stabilizer group...

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

BTW, if you guys want systems to be more than a matter of filling up ships, you'll need the mechanics to back it up. Shields would need things like localized projectors, weapons could use a (reasonable) heat mechanic (NOT boxes; distance from convex hull works as long as the normal heat radius...

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

I already know what that's like. Basically, build power (until I have as much power as I'll need) and chambers, then build everything else. Not really the point.

Literally just invert the stabilizer distances.

The problem with refitting ships, for me, was the lack of tools... With the new(ish) advanced build toolset I'm honestly happy with the current difficulty of ship refitting. I DO NOT like the way that current reactors work, but that doesn't have much to do with filling or not filling ships. I...
