Nice strawman
Allowing people to earn money for their work, and giving Schine extra money to spend on things like "hiring additional coders or artists" isn't benefiting the community and game?
Lawyers prevent you from building whatever you want? No, they don't. They prevent you from selling...
Validated player account. You wouldn't lose access to a BP just because you moved servers. It'd be stored on a server controlled by Schine, and you'd be able to use it on any server that allows you to upload blueprints.
Add metadata to purchased ships that prevents saving the BP or copypasting it.
In case there's any miscommunication here, this would NOT sell you a full ship. This would just sell you access to the BLUEPRINT of a ship, which would still require blocks to fill.
The issue with Steam mods was that you could steal someone else's mod easily. The way I've described it, you'd need to copy the entire thing by hand. Would some people try and do it? Probably, if real life art forgery is anything to judge by. But it'd be rare and easy to spot.
How would this...
How does this prevent players from building ships? If anything, this would encourage people to build more ships of their own, because there'd be less variety of ship to just download.
Evidence disagrees. There will always be people putting up things for free, either to promote their paid work...
It's not even Schine selling blueprints, though. It's people selling stuff they made in Starmade, with Schine getting a portion of the profits. What's wrong with people selling things they made themselves? That's like getting angry at people for selling art they made with a painting program.
"Boohoo, why should people be able to earn money for their work?"
I think this is a great idea. Have a max price available based on block count or something, but allow people to set their sell price to anything beneath that, including a price of "free." It'll allow people to get rewarded for...
Allow players to control things like that. How important is that tiny mining outpost on the other side of the galaxy? Not very. It gets maybe a couple corvettes or a frigate at most, but probably nothing. This would also be a stepping stone for allowing for RTS-style fleet command.
I would rather have it call an actual fleet in reinforcements from another station, rather than magically summoning the ships from your own storages.
EDIT-
Or, we could expand the current scanner system, so we only need to implement 1 new system instead of 2.
I'm going to say no, on the basis that salvage cannons are cheap and require no specific capsule type (only metal mesh), while main weapon types require large numbers of actual capsules. A change like this could seriously fuck up people in earlygame.
Could this potentially have SOME use? Yes. I WOULD like to see a slight inaccuracy to rapid cannons, and a randomized pattern for shotguns. But not at the cost of needing to do tons of extra calculations. And definitely not for the reason of "improving accuracy" for people who can't land their...
