Yeah I think hidden multi destination gates is the only way to make them feasible when compared to other forms of FTL. Increasing the range they can go would help a lot too.
The trouble is it's sometimes not always clear what sectors hurt you, especially in claimed space with a binary sun. Stars don't show up on the map in claimed sectors. The last time I got burned by a sun unknowingly was this very reason. Another issue is the jump drive just drops you in any...
This would be a great addition as well as being able to plot courses so we don't accidentally jump into a sun because it happened to be 8 sectors away from where we jumped from
This is a must have feature now that suns are actually dangerous, we really need to be able to see what sectors are not safe and plot a course around them.
I prefer self powered turrets myself but sometimes it's not worth it for smaller turrets which better use their limited space on more firepower while using the power from a much larger ship.
"Of course there is also combat effectiveness, if you care more about dealing out damage in your fighter then of course it has to be large. If person A builds a fighter of course person B has to build one larger to counter it, and that is the whole problem with gigantism."
If you compare small...
Tracks your hours played and will make Starmade look more popular to any steam game tracking. There really is no downsides to doing it. Well steam does auto update which can bypass the normal updating process so that may be an issue for some.
I very much agree with this statement, just insanely large "fighters" is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. I've actually seen several arguments as to why fighters are large in Starmade. Usually it's the level of detail argument where they want a certain look and have to go big to achieve it. I've...
True but I can't be the only one who thinks it might be a little silly to call a single pilot craft longer than 30 meters a "fighter". I have also not seen any other sci-fi source that has this trend. I can think of only one instance where a large ship was referred to as a fighter and that was...
150 meter fighters...
The game has come a long way so there is a lot more you can take into account when classing ships. Different armors have different mass so similar sized ships can have wildly varying mass. The thrust changes means most ships may have different top speeds. The Cargo...
This is not a bad idea. As the faction system gets expanded and each faction has unique ships and weapons it would be a nice option if the turrets they AI used were also available separate from their ship. Personally I hope you can only buy tech from a faction from their basses if you are...
It would be a nice effect to have systems close by each other to share similarities in their nebula but to limit it based on a galaxy may be a little much. A lot of people will fly around until they find a sector they find visually appealing and make their home there. If it was galaxy based...
The way I was thinking about it the license would be a meta item, basically bound to the player as long as you don't loose it. Flying a ship with banned materials/configurations would be a risk when you fly into faction controlled territory. Of course a faction ship would have to scan you...
I've flown two ships into the sun so far, an old copy of Skylords Venator (the biggest ship in my catalog) and my frigate. The Venator was inside the sun so long I got bored and deleted it. My frigate was crippled before it popped out the other side at full thrust. It wasn't destroyed but it...
