      Just think of it as ships having a structure integrity field that blocks salvage beams. You can only salvage a ship when it goes into overheat mode, aka when the SIF has failed.

      Eh, I wouldn't call it too OP considering that the window where you actually mine asteroids is fairly small. I haven't mined an asteroid except for fun in weeks. You eat a couple of planets and you basically have all the resources you could ever want.
