Pierce and punchthrough transfer damage slightly differently. But yes, they're pretty similar. I honestly don't see the need for two separate effects that do almost exactly the same thing, but that's a conversation for a different thread.
They have an innate piercing ability. Due to how beam pierce and armor blocks interact, though, they can't break more than 1 (6 with explosive) armored block per tick (beams spread damage over 5 ticks).
Not unless there was a reason to stay in the spawn galaxy... like, say, outer galaxies having lower and lower resource concentrations, and stronger and stronger pirates and hostile aliens.
I feel like one of the contributing factors to less frequent PvP is how SLOW it is to move around with JDs. I don't know about most people, but when I enter the coords for a friendly HB that's under attack and see "4000km" on a server where JDs carry me around 80km, it doesn't really make me...
Most mods currently are server plugins or decorative block additions, because modding the code directly is currently 1) a pain in the ass 2) would require frequent updates, and 3) probably a violation the TOS.
I'd like to suggest two sub options for AI controlled weapons- Volley and Burst/Stagger.
Volley means it will attempt to fire all weapon outputs at once, like the AI currently does.
Burst/Stagger means it will spread out the shots over the time period you enter into it. Say you have 3 lock-on...
I think it would be EXTREMELY useful to builders and engineers if we could have weapon computers output a logic signal when they fire. For example, I could make a weapon that has a recoil or recharge animation, like in FTL.
The limits should not be hard. It should just be so difficult to support all those systems at the same time that it wouldn't be viable without disabling a lot of other systems.
Also, the Cap Ship weapons- completely unnecessary. We already have weapons with "longer range, higher alpha."
Not...
Beams are pretty much worthless against anything with multiple layers of armor. They're pretty much your only hope of hitting a fast ship with lots of PD, though, so they do have their uses.
I would rate beams above cannons when using non-block destruction effects (EMP, Ion, Momentum Effects)...
Let me start off this post with "No."
Significant buff to alpha damage and range while lowering RoF... You mean X/Beam?
I like the additions (besides the weapons), but the limitations that come along with them are bad. If I want to build a ship that sends out miners, refines the materials...
You do realize this stuff is in the current release, right? Directional thrust, that is. It's decided through a menu. You can split thrust among the 3 directional pairs and turning speed.
NPCs require to you build a proper interior to house them to get the bonuses. "Boosters" require... nothing. They're magically applied to the ship when you consume it.
You can also be boarded and have your crew killed. How would you disrupt a booster?
No, it doesn't REMOVE the need to build intelligently. It just encourages more of what we currently have- people brute-forcing their way past their poor engineering by building much bigger, or, in the case of "boosters," just slapping on more boosters.
