      my experience with fleets

I had a whole big post written out about how programmers prioritize things, but then I realized one thing. Starmade is still an Alpha. In the development lifecycle, Alpha is where you add new features and get the basic shape of the game beaten out. Beta is where you stop adding features and...

      Classing Ships for Fleets

Assuming they don't start disassembling it as soon as its clear they're going to lose. But the point was before the best case scenario was you destroy his ship, you keep yours with a few minor holes in it, and you don't really expend much if anything in the way of resources to do it. With the...

      Classing Ships for Fleets

Well, so is running a smaller fleet. Sure, the smaller fleet will beat the titan, but odds are the titan is going to destroy it's fair share of smaller ships in the process. So you're really throwing disposable drone ships in the trash to beat the larger one. Instead of one ship being...

      Classing Ships for Fleets

Hey now, forcing the other guy's toaster to slideshow while I keep at a couple hundred FPS is a great way to win a fight. My secret weapon... the GPU Melter! :P

      Have You Mothballed Your Titan?

Just a quick and dirty show of hands. Now that fleets have been out for a little while, have you retired your large ships and switched over to a fleet of smaller ones?

      Classing Ships for Fleets

Of course there will still be a need for docked power. Lets not kid ourselves here people. Fleets don't mean people will give up their big ships with docked reactors, it means their big ships with docked reactors will be flanked by smaller ships without reactors. The demand for large ships...

      my experience with fleets

Its likely a question of resource vs. reward. Some of the things that need fixing may take a thousand hours of dev time to fix, while getting mining to work may have taken 10 hours. One is a quick kill to get something a lot of people were yelling for into the game, one is a long slog that...

      Example Low Profile PDT 2016-03-23

A very simple example of a low profile PDT (Point Defense Turret, aka an Anti-Missile Turret). Full range of motion and field of fire that is small enough to be disguised as hull decoration for ships that you don't want to be bristling in obvious weapons. Thrown together quickly for a request...

      Sexy Point Defense Turrets?

Turret? What turret? Thats just a bolt holding the plate on... I stuck it up on CC for you: Example Low Profile PDT

      What is a titan?

More like weeks or months of work. I don't think anybody is going to churn out an actual functioning Titan that isn't a shoebox in only a couple of days.

      Largest ship/project

So the big ship you're making is a cross between a borg cube and a mobile dyson sphere? I've seen bigger, actually. There are some scale builds of Atlantis from Stargate Atlantis floating around out there. I think I recall seeing where somebody had at least started on a Super Star Destroyer...

      Things You Never Use

Well, I don't agree on the rail doors, I love those, but I do agree on Pulse. I never use it. I prefer /Damage Beam in every instance because I hate the uber long reload time and huge power drain of Pulse as a secondary.

      Read by Council homebase invulnerability

Hey, you can disparage it all you want, but my opinion on where the game should go is every bit as valid as yours, and I honestly believe that *ANY* ability to remove homebase invulnerability for *ANY* reason is a horrible idea. Config alterable, procedural, doesn't matter to me. The fact that...

      Antiblock weapons

When going for damage, you want 100% efficiency on your slaved systems. So equal numbers across the board. A Missile/Pusle/Explosive is going to be HUGE. My combat miner is running Missile/Beam/Explosive and doing about 1m damage per missile, two missiles per shot, and when I'm pirate farming...

Read by Schine Mass enhancers are stupid

500 blocks. Appears to be standard armor, thats 0.15 mass per block, or 75 mass per nacelle. Thats all of 5 enhancers. Cut a line in your hull, drop in the 5 enhancers, replace the armor over the top as 1/4 slabs. Now you have extra room that doubles as decorated hull. I mean, not trying to...

Read by Schine Mass enhancers are stupid

Now lets be fair here, no "small ship" is going to have turrets big enough to require more than a couple of enhancers. By the time you get a ship big enough to have turrets large enough to need enhancers, slapping 10-20 extra blocks on there isn't really going to do much in the way of hurting...

      Antiblock weapons

Yeah, but thats the tradeoff. Missiles will do far more damage, but they have to get through PDT. Beams and cannons are much more surgical in their strikes, but can't be stopped. I usually like putting Missile/Cannon turrets and giving my drones missile/cannon with multiple barrels so that...

Read by Schine Mass enhancers are stupid

Last I heard it did, and I did see a reduction in FPS drop back when I first heard about it after putting speed controllers on all the docking port rails to turn them off. Haven't tested it in a while though, it just became second nature that whenever I build a docking port, I turn it off. To...

      Antiblock weapons

Maximum damage in minimum time? Missile/Pulse/Explosive in a multiple staggered launch array. God help your power reserves though.
