I'd much rather see something along the lines of a shipyard computer for station construction, so that we could build stations in creative mode on server and avoid the need to swap back and forth between server and single player, transferring designs over as blueprints.
Did some really quick builds in game:
All four of these "ships" fit within a 9x9x9 cube. All of them have their dockers in the exact same place, bottom layer center.
All four of these ships will behave on a single rail exactly the same, because they are all the same size and their dockers...
Yes, it would. Because then all of the fighters could be built with the docker in the same place. All of them would be built to fit in the same bay, but none of them would have to have their hulls specifically shaped to fit. Build whatever you want, however you want, and then stick the docker...
Same concept.
USDs work because they have the dockers and the rails in the same places so that any two USDs will fit together. They are standardized. If you build something that is USD compatible, then you don't have to worry what the other guy built, you know where the important blocks are...
You're missing the point entirely.
The bird of prey is an example of a random ship. Yeah, I could put extra rails on either side of the bay. That would be great, for that one ship. But again, I am talking generic bays here, and you can't have the entire floor be a solid sheet of rails to...
See last post, then we're just back to having built a custom bay for one ship when the goal is a generic bay.
Again, the entire point of this is that it would let you put the docker in a standardized location on all ships regardless of their shape. Which means they can all dock in the same...
Let me get the crayons.
Ship has dockers on either side because those are the points at the bottom of the ship. There is one rail block to dock on. The docking area for the ship has to be twice the width of the ship because it isn't centered, and thus could be on either wing, a generic bay...
Again, my entire point is that custom building a dock for every ship you have is harder than it has to be.
So we are talking generic docking here.
If the docker in the bird of prey is in one of the wings, then it is at the outside edge of the ship. Since a generic dock doesn't know which wing...
Again, you'll need a bay that is twice as big as the ship for that.
And guess what, sports fans? We already have invisible, intangible blocks. Pickup and launch rails. There is no abuse to this that you can't already do with those.
1) Its the suggestion forum. How about you let people make suggestions for things they want to see to make the game better? Hmmm?
Because apparently "Custom build entire sections of your station to accommodate every single ship you ever see" is a perfectly reasonable thing to do? Why did we...
Actually, if you could put the docker outside of the ship (which you already can), you don't have to custom build one for the other. You can put it in a consistent location for all of your ships regardless of their shape. You could then have universal docking quite easily.
We can already do...
Klingon Bird of Prey (Fighter)
Not sure if thats the one I have or not, but basic shape is the same. Entrance to the ship is on the top of the back, but it has significant amounts of space between the wings.
Put the docker in the head? Can't dock to a flat surface, the wings are in the way...
Just sick and tired of people putting words in my mouth and twisting what I said.
Because somehow "Being able to dock without needing to build around physically touching blocks" and "Being able to see the beam easily" equates to "I spooge over docking enhancers" and "I loved not being able to...
Um, how exactly does that make docking odd shaped ships easier again, exactly?
Which, despite the efforts of some, is the actual purpose of this thread? To make it so you can dock things easily without having to custom build the ship to match the station dock, or vice versa?
Did I say...
Okay, I knew the various ship points were funky and rather meaningless, but this takes the cake.
Offensive score of almost 18 million. With an entire armament of 16 anti-missile turrets and some decorative weapon modules on the bridge:
Now granted, its a kilometer long (starting to...
But you're not talking about attacking people out in open space. You're talking about specifically disabling a player's ability to run home and dock to escape a fight they don't want to be in in the first place.
But you know what, I'm done with this part. You voiced your opinion on the topic...
Maybe not let PvP ruin PvE?
Just because you don't want people actually being allowed to use their home base invincibility doesn't mean you get to veto anything and everything that makes using a station of any kind easier.
Because they like having someone to talk to while they build? Because they like being able to fly over and visit the neighbors and see what they're building? Because they like to help teach other people how to build and play the game?
You know, that quote literally boils down to "If you...
