I know that the beacons would be space stations and this is one very good way of giving them more meaning. it's a good idea, a good start. there just need to be many more ideas like this to add more functionality to stations.

This may not fit for the planned future of docking... The current system allows you to change any rail block to any direction e.g. I can change a clockwise rail that is facing upwards to be a counter clockwise rail facing downwards. This can currently be done using 1 rail block and 1 button...
Assuming you are talking about rail basics, as opposed to rotator rails this is because the current max speed of any entity on these rails is just slow. Hopefully it will get fixed. At the moment the way to achieve top speed is to place a speed controller on your station, link it to the rail(s)...

Agree witg the principle though I think it might be more simple to just have 2 configurations for server friction , 1 for ships that are occupied and 1 for ships that are unoccupied.
the copy paste system does work but I do think it needs major improvement.
That said I think that simply improving the copy paste system would be more useful and easier to use than your suggestion here but I feel your frustration, modular building is the way to go And starmade is nearly set up...
