Red Shift (#1 On the official list!) - NO LONGER ACTIVE!!

I appear to have several questions. I've already been playing on Red Shift (and have donated), but there is MUCH that has not been said about this server, such as changes to distances, including weapon ranges. Have the required percentages of blocks required for maximum defensive 'effects' been...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

Consider batteries instead of reducing your missile payload. Generally the way I plan things is to look at my surplus power output after shields, jammers, etc.. If I am using missiles with a 15 second recycle rate I multiply that energy regeneration rate by 15, and that is how much energy...

It does not matter where you put the explosive modules. You link the explosive modules to the explosive computer. You link the explosive computer to the missile computer, the same missile computer that the beam computer got linked to.

You can only add one additional weapon type to a weapon system. The third thing you add is an effect, not a weapon. So in your case you could add either cannon or beam to your missiles, but not both. I recommend ion effect, but only partial, to boost your weapon's ability to knock down shields...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

I would assert that is not a reason to hate cubes. That is a reason to hate the mechanics which 'make' cubes so desirable and to campaign to change that. I have several threads in these forums aiming to do just that. Until those mechanics change however, I will not force myself to fly something...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

Alright. To the right you see the skeleton of a new such 'box' that is slightly larger than 49, actually 53. When finished, it will not actually be a box but that is it's starting power structure shape. To the left is a semi-complete ship based roughly on the same idea, that suffers a few...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

Just to give you an idea, I will use over 4000 power modules on a ship no larger than 49 blocks, and I will do that pretty much with my first real ship, generating over a million power per second. Such a ship has no problem cloaking even while carrying a decent salvage array (as long as you...

      The Feedupyourbeast Server

Hey, that gives us something productive to interweave between our power structures. What could be bad about that?

Well, then try putting your missiles onto turrets and slave a beam computer to them without adding any actual beam modules. Use a Bobby AI and remember to activate it and set it to any, once you've placed the turret. Also make sure you've put a faction module into the turret and set your...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

What I typically do with my first workhorse ship on a server is to use heatseekers. (Missile/missile which I actually slave at a 2/1 ratio to keep their hitting power and speed somewhat higher.) You do NOT want to use heatseekers when there are any friendlies about, as they will get targeted...

What blocks can interact with logic?

Crap! I fear I am doomed to either accept an utterly energy depleted ship or sniper missile turrets that fire only once per 45 seconds.

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

Especially if you are building a small ship, do not be afraid of starting over. Be willing to try radically different concepts. You will both have more fun, learn more, and ultimately probably come up with a much more interesting design. All of the weapons will attach to the computer core you...

What blocks can interact with logic?

Hmm... Can this be used in a turret with a Bobby AI for targeting, to space out the fire? I would for instance like to put several sets of sniper missiles (missile/beam) into a turret, but rather than have all of them fire at once, draining insane amounts of power and/or requiring huge battery...

All Wolfs ?'s about missile post/My first Fighter

What the...? This is the first I have heard of this! (Why is there no newbie guide that tells us things like this?) Each additional weapon added to a primary computer increases the energy cost by 10%? So having ten separate weapons fired by a computer will cost twice as much energy as having the...

      Playing with missile turrets

Has anything been written about how precisely turrets draw power from their host ship while firing? The actual process during game ticks...? I am thinking that perhaps by having 'only enough energy storage for a single weapon to fire, and by placing the turret on an intermediary platform (that...

Turrets, AI ships, and passive effects

I've built my turrets using both pierce and ion passive defensive effects. Recently someone in chat told me that turrets will not use such passive defensive effects. Is this true? (And are the developers aware that this would be a HUGE failing?) I presume that if this is the case, that AI...

      Please stop penalizing 'roleplaying' builds

I have zero interest in discussing anything with someone who approaches a conversation with derision, nor do I care to waste my time trying to change what you think. I might attempt to change the thinking of people I actually care about, such as people who can converse with decorum.

      Playing with missile turrets

Well, if nothing else, my weapon systems will be drawing from supplementary 'modular' reactors, without the loss associated with power beams. ;-)

      Playing with missile turrets

That was an interesting experiment with missile turrets. It worked as well as I hoped, but drained all the power from my main ship. My desire is actually to 'starve' the turrets for power so it spaces out it's missile fire. I am wondering if there is any reason I can't put the turret on a ship...

      Playing with missile turrets

I am very happy to report total success! Oddly, what worked probably should 'not' have worked as well as it did, given how I understood things to work. I had previously built a smaller missile turret that had nine sniper missiles serviced by one computer. but only enough energy to fire one per...
