Power Reactors + Heat + Weapons = End of Gigantism?

One of the things that really came to mind with all of this. If bigger weapon arrays produce a lot more heat as they get larger, that would be a very good downward pressure on weapon array sizes. If that means smaller weapons become more of the norm, less space would be needed to dedicate to...

      Power System Overhaul Proposal

Love the idea of making actual system groupings this way. I would also like to see power conduits be a thing, as in a block that actually carries power from the reactor to the systems. Gotta actually lay some cable from the reactor to the weapons on the other side of the ship. I'd also like...

Verification of new power proposed system

As I understood it, the reactor itself will create heat, as will systems like weapons. You then also have coolant tanks that you connect to your reactor via conduits that reduce the heat. So everything generates heat, and you have coolant tank systems that work on removing that heat.

Beam Weapon Visuals - Travel time

Dude, just no, you wouldn't. From the wikipedia article you linked: 10^-6 is 0.000000001 grams per cubic meter. The average density of Earth's atmosphere at sea level is 0.0012 g/cm3. That would be 0.12 grams per cubic meter. Thats over a billion times thicker than the cosmic dust the Earth...

How do you build a jump ship to permit fast galactic travel, without chain drives?

The problem with most of the chain drives isn't that its multiple drives together, its the fact that they require docked entities whipping back and forth on rails in confined areas in order to spam logic signals to make them charge/jump correctly. Fast moving docked parts inside of ships...

How do you build a jump ship to permit fast galactic travel, without chain drives?

It depends entirely on how you define "fast". For me, "fast" is "how much time do I have to spend actively travelling". So the fastest way for me to get to the other side of the galaxy or to another galaxy is to use the Move Fleet command. Put your ship into a fleet, give it the move command...

Beam Weapon Visuals - Travel time

Dude, I know what cosmic dust is. But that doesn't apply here. You're talking about a super thin dust that can create vague glows when looked at across an entire system. We're talking about lasers being visible from inches away. To see a beam like that, you would need near fog machine levels...

Beam Weapon Visuals - Travel time

And lets be honest, we can see the cannon fire. If we wanted to be realistic here, the cannon shot is travelling about as fast as a thrown baseball. Its not like its realistic either. I still support keeping beams instant draw the way they are, but we can't really bring "realism" into the...

Beam Weapon Visuals - Travel time

Actually, what we have in game now CANNOT be a light based weapon. Space is a vacuum, there is no dense dust cloud to refract the light back to our eyes. All light based laser weapons would be invisible. The fact that we can see the beams at all, and that we can color the beams, means that...

Beam Weapon Visuals - Travel time

No need to be an ass about it. Starmade is already very much like TV shows and movies. The jump drive we have now is visually identical to Star Wars hyperspace. The cannon fire looks just like the cannon fire from Battlestar Galactica or Stargate SG1. If you're going to make a genre based...

      How turret shield works?

No, there's not much point in that currently. If you're going to build fighters, you can build them to be piloted, but assume they're going to be used by the AI mostly.

Slab Displays (no, slab the other direction, not the one you're thinking of)

Okay, first off get this out of the way: But no, everyone is probably assuming I mean to slab the display so that it makes a flatscreen (slabs back to front). I don't mean that way this time. I mean a slab 1/4 display that slabs top to bottom. As in, you have a 1/4 flat sitting slab that...

      How turret shield works?

This one is often overlooked. Against the people that like to use x/Pulse for those really big hits, they take forever to reload. A small fighter or a drone eating that blast means the carrier/other ships are safe from that weapon potentially for the rest of the fight. Better IMO to think of...

Possible to edit rail block stats? Specifically strength.

If nothing else, cover your exposed rails in blast doors, and then use activators on the rails to detect when something is going down them and open the door segments in front of it. Now you've got even more armor and ship HP, and no edits need making.

      How turret shield works?

And this is different from reality and every science fiction film ever made... how? The Rebels didn't send a single X-Wing to take out the Death Star, they sent a fleet. The Rebels didn't send a single cruiser to take out the second Death Star, they sent an even bigger fleet. When the...

      New Jump Drive Effect?

The new Voltron series is using wormhole portals as well, I'd still really like to see something like this in Starmade.

      Automatically Closing Doors With Sensor?

I can do that. Quick and Easy Picture Tutorial: Automatic Doors I'm wanting to figure out how to make it so that I can manually open the door and have it re-close on it's own. Area sensors and the like work for anyone walking through them, I'd like to make security doors that faction members...

      Automatically Closing Doors With Sensor?

Okay, I hate to admit that this is getting the best of me, but... its getting the best of me. I'm trying to make what should be a fairly simple circuit. Use the sensor block to determine when a plex door is open, and close it after a delay. But for the life of me I cannot seem to get it to do...
