Agreed. The basic requirements for resource gathering should require ONLY basic components. Hull, power, thrusters, and salvage beams should all require composite and mesh, and nothing more. Otherwise you're locking some people out of being able to start out due to being in an unlucky area.

Yes, its functional. While it may not be as content rich as you would like, it functions. You put a weapon on your ship, you push the button, something shoots out, and the thing it hits registers damage and destroys blocks. That is already miles ahead of what the clones can do.

That was rather the point, yes. The creativity and ability to build anything you want is the main draw of Starmade. Limiting or taking that creativity away means its just a really crappy attempt at a ship based shooter, which there are MANY games of that do it MUCH better.
