Hey Guys, (full disclosure, I sponsor Quickfire)
I'd like to point out that this is a community driven initiative. I see allot of good arguments for and against certain ideas like thrust and reactor size. Please feel free to jump on our Quickfire Discord Server to have a real time discussion...
We've totally removed recoil on our test server, and increased the range of cannons as well. They still can't hit anything. Now we've reduced server speed. All three things seemed to have made cannons somewhat viable.
It's really not necessary to have multiple reactors. Just put in multiple chambers and activate and deactivate the different chambers as you need them.
What about a proximity Missile... it only needs to get within say 100 meters of your ship, and does limited damage?
Much easier to hit, but less damage?
I agree completely. However, Chamber blocks being so heave helps to mitigate how many Chambers your ship can have. I build a ship with 20 Chambers that can be switched on and off.
I've taken full advantage of this. Reducing my Reactor down to 1999 on my ship, I was able to reduce the size of my Chambers by half :D
Not sure if that's intended, but having my reactor a tiny bit smaller only seems to affect jump drive charging. Maybe that means my weapons are under powered?
I suppose the counter to that would be to possibly put a layer of basic armor on top of the ceramic stuff. Or just make sure you have enough shields to block that 1 point damage shot.
Nice! I didn't even think of how intricate and complex hybrid/composite armor could become. Great Idea.
If...
I like the idea of a light weight armor that can hopefully absorb at least one hit from an alpha weapon before it fails. This would allow for lightweight ships to possibly survive an encounter with a much bigger ship should it be ambushed or otherwise caught by surprise. It would also help with...
I see your point Mac, but most the primary issues that you site as examples will also be affected by the Universe update. I'm assuming that the universe update will come with buffs and de-buffs to sytems, and planets and so forth. Would this not mean that when Jump Gates, Warp Inhibition...
If the recoil is going to be a thing, maybe we can put our turrets on rails so the cannons can roll or slide back to absorb the recoil. Just like all the other big cannons in real life?
Nice picture to explain things, This is by far the best solution for most problems. Though it doesn't tottally apply to my situation. I think my best bet would be to follow Energywelder 's advice and shift the center of mass if I can. I'll post some screen shots if I remember once I get home.
Hey Guys,
I just thought I'd throw this out there. I've been refitting some of my ships and I'm noticing other people talk about this as well. The most logical place in some older ship shell designs is to place the Reactor and Stabilizers in areas of the shell which in-turn places the power...
I like the idea of maintaining a population and worrying about their happiness/revolt.
I like the idea of growing population
I like the idea of population giving bonus
I like the spy idea
I don't like population affecting Home Base protection. It just doesn't make sense that a population of...
