This is an interesting suggestion.
First, I recommend that any mention of docking be removed from this idea. Lock-on or molecular-bonding...whatever but this is not a docking-chain and should avoid the confusion. There are no links between entities, no power or shield sharing etc.
Second; why...
This would not be out of place on a marine whose main job is boarding enemy vessels. A personal shield should be able to be one-shotted with any ship weapon, but extend the duration of fire-fights between astronauts somewhat. Also, may be a useful balance-element if other personal weapons are...
There will still be a need for spawning ships before a player has developed a full working shipyard.
The CC section of the dock will still require a method of sharing builds, if not BPs then Designs. What would become of all the existing BPs in the CC if BPs were eliminated altogether...
Federation buys up monopoly on Mono Expanding-foam 'extra strength'. High tech 'Ablative' armor released into service following year.
These injuries began to increase in number after the tumultuous 'Fuses are for wimps' reforms in the late 22nd century. Circuit breakers and fuses were...
Here is spin on the OP that has the added benefit of introducing more color in the game:
Allow one or more light-blocks to be C-V linked to your 'indicator light (just a standard light-block. Rather that switching between two colors, have the new color of light combined with the target light's...
I'm afraid to even suggest this. We don't want a new permission-block...we don't wan't a new, indestructible block. That leaves...
...the core. Does it make sense that the core is used as the block-that-maintains-build/copy-permission list?
These same drawbacks occurred to me as well. Just trying to brain-storm solutions that might work for all these added suggestions.
BTW, good job moderating this thread Erth Paradine. You have done an admirable job trying to weave many different ideas into your OP.
I would honored if someone blew a ship out from under me then hauled the wreckage home, tried to reverse engineer my tech then made a Frankenstein-copy of it. What better praise could there be?
That is a lot different than pressing a 'copy' button on my design.
That is more of an issue with markers-beams as meta-items. I see no reason for there to be meta-items (like marker-beam or flashlight) taking up valuable space on my toolbar. I would like to see the flashlight, the power-beam and the marker-beam folded into the basic vacc-suit.
Clean up...
I propose that the astronaut's default load out for their Vacc-suit include the functionality of:
-Helmet.
-Flashlight. (I enjoy this head-lamp technology as a 21st century cyclist...this is a no-brainer)
-Power-beam. (Rarely needed and never there when you need it)
-Marker-beam. (See...
Go Roughnecks!
(and by that I mean the super awesome Marauder powered jump-armor from Starship Troopers.......the book, not those namby pamby GIs from the movie. GI Joe accelerator suits were a fairy close realization)
A ship-based grapple weapon would help.
1) The 'quarters' update will have to be able distinguish inside from outside.
2) Ship-weapons will have to be outlawed or nerfed for interior use.
2-b) We will need some balanced anti-personnel turret-weapons that don't one-shot astronauts.
Not 2-b) Some...
I suppose we would need a way to re-establish a link after replacing the destroyed permission-block. All I can think of at the moment is to use the marker-beam to tell the Copy-protection system which (permission) block to refer to.
I'm gonna want to have a big, hinged emergency cover on that button, with hazard stripes and maybe a key-lock. I figure once entities get fused, or welded or whatever...it's permanent.
Could this be accomplished by getting the copy-protection system to refer to a permission block to check for authorized 'mechanics'? The beauty of that option is that the permission-list is handled by an existing block and can be changed after-the-fact, on the fly & as many times as you want. Do...
Well fix it dear Henry...
(Obscure folk music reference; There's a hole in the bucket)
A great idea. I seem to recall reading that the test sector was going to get a re-vamp anyway. This would be a good time to chime in on what needs to be done with it....beyond fixing gremlins.
Ya, I guess that is reasonable. If you want to advance to automated fleet-mining and not worry about FP you will have motivation to clear the hostiles.
