I like this suggestion and I am sure there are many other cool game-modes we could dream up. I hope that when SM is released it will offer multiple game modes for servers to choose from.

Then the only change I would recommend is to introduce a minor power cost to thrusters when inertial dampening is left active. That function uses power too in my book.
Are these floating 'satellite' blocks considered an exploit? Could Schine introduce a limit (on empty space between a small mass of blocks and the main ship) on an entity? Perhaps limit these 'floaters' to a 30 or 40 block gap because I can't think of a legitimate reason to allow this to go on.
Wouldn't it be cool if they made a collision-detection logic block that could be used to trigger 'explosive bolts' to eject a colliding entity upon separation during combat. (I would want a safety-switch to avoid accidents).

This would be a good way to tweak beams. The logic here makes sense for beam and cannon weapons, but I think missiles should be balanced in a different way if this gets implemented.
Playing with range-modifiers would be an alternative method of attaining balance between weapon types.
