I haven't played the game in a few months and everything ran smoothly before. Now, when I open the launcher, it runs so slow it's unusable. Are there any likely causes I should try to fix right off the bat? Reinstalling does not solve the issue.

Sadly, turret axis cannot be converted into rails. If you want a rotating salvager you have to use logic and rail rotators. =/ Edit: Though, it may be possible to swap between a turret axis and rail by undocking the salvager, however, this would likely require you to not move the ship.

Change the spawn system to one much further from the center or arms of a galaxy, this will place you much further from civilization. You can find the selected system coords in the galaxy map and paste them into the config/world setting related to the spawnpoint's system.
