Reduce the max segments drawn and you'll be fine. Reducing the textures even further would just be a waste of time and effort that could be spent elsewhere. Just make you own texture pack if you really want a 16x16 texture pack.
A reduced pulse time would mean more control over the activation, and it would give the cannon combo more use. It also would make it more like an opposite of the pulse combo.

If you use logic, or activate a beam with one click, that beam won't turn with your ship. It will keep pointing at the point you firstbfired it at. When you move, it will not move like it would mkve when you use unfocussed fire. It will try to keep hitting the point it was fired at first, but...
This is one of the things I don't like about starmade. And I know it shouldn't affect anything, but it does. I've come to have strong negative feelings towards minecraft (and that is kindly put), and having starmade advertising itself as a minecraft-inspired game, doesn't really feel good...

And it wasn't just salvage. Any non-damage beam was broken. That reminds me, I need to check if the combinations for the other beams have changed.

The other effects were also broken. I like the damage system too, but like you I feel that it is implemented in the wrong way.
I personally feel that it should be based on the hp of the block that is being salvaged. I have a thread about it over in the suggestion forum, be usre to check it out...
