Hi there! Jake Lancia back for another Build Initiative; this time the Foundries require an industrial powerhouse of a ship. Once again, this will be a competition, with entries judged on a new scoring system detailed below.

Some pointers on what to add in your ship:
    • The ship is meant to (look like) a mobile factory or refinery ship, its exact purpose is up to you but some ideas on what to add could be: Refinement of raw ores, block/component construction, or mobile shipyard, or any combination of the three.
    • We recommend also including a subordinate ship/small fleet, some ideas could be: Mining drones, Trade/cargo drones, shuttlecraft for crew.
    Rules
So, the rules for the competition are as follows:
    • Ship entries should be uploaded to Starmade Community Content and linked in this thread.
    • The size of your entries must not exceed 600m in any axis. This includes any docked entities in their resting positions*, as well as shootout rails and other "nonphysical" blocks.
    • Your entry has to appear functional as a mobile factory/refinery ship, so it needs the appearance of a factory system or refinery of some kind.
    • Weapons and turrets are allowed, but not necessary.
    • Interior is required due to the ship's role/s; we will score your ship on the quality of the interior. We highly recommend at least a hangar area and a manufacturing area in your build.
    • Other systems are not required. Feel free to leave space for systems, though.
    • No modded blocks.
    • There is a time limit of three (3) months after this thread is created to submit your entries; this will be on the 28th of August 4th of September at 23:59/11:59pm UTC+1. Deadline extended by 1 week
    • There is no limit on the amount of entries you can make; each entry will be judged on its own merits.
    • The top entries will be reviewed via video review, and all submissions will be scored.
*Docked entities have to be inside the size limit in their default resting position; Ie. closed doors that, in their default state, are inside the limit but outside when open/active are fine.

I will be opening up the Trident’s Corner discord so that contestants and others can discuss the entries, among other things. PM me here or on Discord for the link.

    Score system
Exterior: 0/10 How good the exterior is
Interior: 0/10 How good the interior is
Purpose: 0/10 How well the ship fits its design brief (this also includes interaction/integration of the purpose of the ship)

Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Just to clarify: you're saying to make an "RP" factory ship (interior / exterior), correct?

We have removed the minimum size limit after consultation, and updated the scoring system.

Just to be sure, can we build these ships on the latest release ? I fail to remember if we need the dev version for refineries and factories on ships.

It just has to be an RP version, it doesnt have to actually work

When you have finished your build you need to export it and upload it to community content
You then post the link to your build here, if you want examples you can look through the previous competition here

found a tutorial for how to upload and downloads builds from community content

Roleplay orientated and no limit on docked entities? What have you done…

I can’t decide if 3 months is enough or not. Then again, my take on interior design might be a bit skewed.

Is it me or was the minimum size rule removed?

I share that sentiment. Love this rarely seen idea of a mobile factory, but also think that the requirements and freedoms might turn out to be overwhelming. Basically, a machinery-packed station with rocket engines, plus a supporting fleet.

It's creative enough of a challenge to really test our creativity, which is good. It just feels like this competition series escalated a bit too quickly. This could've been the final challenge, one that would bring together a contestant's previous entries ("build a self-propelled station, as a mobile base, which can anchor your freighter, that combat ship you submitted, and all the rest").

Anyways, I'm dreaming of building something like these:

    Example (1).jpg Example (2).jpg Example (3).jpg

PS: sooo looking forward to a Tshara entry! :D

I can agree with that. It's a certain amount of time commitment for a build this size. So I'm going a more traditional route that hopefully allows me to add the amount of detail I want in the time given.

I'm gonna be honest I kinda agree lol

but at the same time, this was the ship type that was voted in by the community, and at least for this one we didn't want to say "here, make THIS" but give the people a choice.

We may choose the next one ourselves, though.

Question: Do shootout rails count towards the total length? I don’t think I will exceed it but wanted to make sure. I tend to place pickup point for rails further away from the ship to make sure AI has a better change of docking.

Good question. Was only yesterday I realised the station I've been building for the last few weeks is longer than expected because I forgot about those special rails.
