Make small arms penetrate shields

    Self explanatory. They'd have a small bleed through effect, so people can damage ships with small arms.

    Why though? It makes no sense, why would a small gun get through the shield and not heavier weapons?

    Becuase your pistols inboard computer can detect subatomic fractures it's bolts can fly through. And becuase it would give boarding a point.

    Oh well of course that makes sense... If something can fit through a fracture on a subatomic scale it would do so little damage you'd never see it!
    Way more needs to be done before boarding is a thing, if this is your method for getting aboard it isnt very good, if not, then we still need a way to get on board, and then find someone to shoot as they're in the core..

    I don't mean any offence by this, its just i don't think this idea makes sense.

    Better idea: Shields are tuned to prevent high energy objects from impacting. A pistol round is a low energy object.
    Were shields not tuned to prevent only high energy objects from impacting, then walking inside your ship would be awfully difficult.

    I wanted to say it's a bad idea...but if you don't have your ships docked and you're away from them, then you're dumb and deserve to lose them.

    Dunno, still 50/50 on the idea. It's kind of silly but maybe could turn into something cool like boarding parties becoming a thing.

    Sense or not is not important. You always can come up with the explanation why it works later (after all die someone yet explained why blocks are able of space trabel ;) ? )

    Importend is if it is a entertaining and useful game feature! ... I would say it would be if a hand held weapon of some sort could damage specific blocks while ignoring shields ! (plexdoors, glas, decoration etc for example.) so you could break down a door (or blow up the charge behind the door into your own face :P )

    I'm sure griefers would appreciate it.
    Anyone who didn't set their base to home or left a ship undocked is gonna login to overheating cores.

    That's not to say the idea doesn't have merit. It's just the OP isn't really fleshing out the concept enough for any of us to grab onto it and appreciate the subtle genius.

    I would say it would be if a hand held weapon of some sort could damage specific blocks while ignoring shields ! (plexdoors, glas, decoration etc for example.) so you could break down a door (or blow up the charge behind the door into your own face :p )
    If only a selected few blocks can be damaged this way, I'd completely agree.
    If all blocks could be destroyed this way, I'd disagree.

    so say i had my nebula class with its very powerful shields and not much armour from the correct angle they would need to shoot trough 2 blocks to get to the core so its just a little too powerful since the nebula class i am working on costs 1.27 bill so all that money gone to waste since a person with a pistol was able to destroy it sure i am gonna add more armour to it to prevent this its just too powerful having a pistol being able to destroy massive ships that cost a fortune

    Essentially, We *are considering different methods to make astronaut combat (boarding/defending/exploring/etc) viable and fun in its own unique way without negatively impacting existing ship gameplay. So yes, a player weapon that has bleedthrough is a good concept, I appreciate the suggestions! (also keep in mind that future ships will not die simply by shooting their cores, making the entire "astronaut shoots core" issue not a problem) also look into the other thread and into the hacking threads to see other ideas on boarding tactics

    YES HACKING. I'd love to see the people with ideas collaborate more! It really makes it a community effort.

    Then, why don't you dock it? I think why I got 4 dislikes is becuase people are afraid of people taking their ships-the thing is, people can take your vessel in any other way, so it really doesn't matter.
    I'm sorry I didn't explain my idea a little more, by the way. The point of this is that people can grapple to someone's ship and take it over.
    I think one of the star made's community main issues is that people just want to build-they don't want to risk thier ships. There is nothing wrong with that, but this isn't just a building game. There needs to be room for other play styles.

    If this ever gets done, I think Hand guns should penetrate shields only by 50% and hardened hull should be almost immune.

    But what would you do against a core covered in hard hull where a player can only salvage/build the block to enter?

    Activator block walls chains which trigger redundant self-destruction - only when enough are broken to allow trespassing (of-course after a few area triggers -> pulse cannons to fend of less annoying intruders)

    This is a moot point, becuase people will take your ship whether or not they use pistols. You could place it in a protected sector

    ever heard of ramming people have used that against me in the past to ram my ships out of protected sectors and destroyed my ships

    Completely destroying every block of a ship with a pistol (when this idea is implemented) is just a question of time, destroying a ship by other means is also a question of resources(unless the destroyed ship was built horribly).
