Edy, dear, you are either blind, stupid or pretending to be rеtаrdеd in which case I applaud your very convincing play.
The info we have already is quite enough to see the general outline of how things will work after the update.
And what we see is troubling us greatly.

    To name but a few:
    • The fact that the new system, unless seriously tweaked, will heavily favor stick-ships.
Watch the stream highlights and note the stabilizer placement (hint: on the big ship, stupid)

    • The death of chaindrives. By itself it is a good change, but they've taken away the chaindrives without addressing the tedium of traveling across galaxy.
Now we are either screwed over completely or forced to build "travel mode"-reactors with FTL chambers, or even spend capacity of our main reactors - and not as a "trade-off", don't even think of using that excuse. All this would make it even harder to build small.
A variable speed warp/hyper/whateverdrive that's used continuously would solve it, but alas Schine doesn't seem to listen to good suggestions that would improve things.

    • Possibility of cloaking becoming the new bad meta. Now that every ship will have access to it, what's to stop people from exploiting the hell out of it? Right, nothing!
Every ship can have access to it and I fully expect sneaky-breeki "surprise aft coitus"-squadrons wreaking havoc for a week or two after the update, before everyone learns how to use built-in scanners and scanner ships become mandatory for every fleet.
Right now I could say "Each reactor block gives 1,000 e/sec, scales linearly, requires only 1 stabilizer block per 100 reactors, and at maximum that stabilizer only has to be 5 blocks away from the reactor"
We could simply point out that none of your "predictions out the ass" could be seen in the stream and call you an idiot.

inb4 banned again while Schine Internet Defense Force spews love and tolerance at everyone who disagrees with them

And again, since we have no idea on how any of the details work, we don't know the size of the reactors we need to build. A stick ship is meaningless if the reactor needed for it is small enough to do everything it needs without filling the entire ship. So again, until we know that the new reactors will require more space than current reactor lines do, we don't know anything.

    Good.
Chain drives are awful for the game and they need to be nerfed into the ground.

And I also like the idea of needing tradeoffs. You want to zip across the galaxy? Make a dedicated jump ship. Big heavy warships SHOULD be slower to deploy. Would also make carriers more important. Hell, look at Star Wars, they had warp sleds for small ships. You dock into the sled, use it's reactor to jump you where you want to go, undock and do you thing. When you're ready to leave, redock and jump out.

I only see options opening up with this by limiting what different ships can do.
We could simply point out that none of your "predictions out the ass" could be seen in the stream and call you an adorable.
Hey, you guys are the ones taking things that aren't said in the video and twisting them into doom and gloom when you don't know what you're talking about yet.

Until we get our hands on the system, we don't know anything.

Stream clearly showed that you need a sizable reactor to power ship that big.
Arguments like these only stand to show how far in denial you are.
And I also like the idea of needing tradeoffs.
It's not a trade-off, it's having shit served you on a plate and calling it a good meal.
It shouldn't take days of real time to move shit from one end of the galaxy to the other.
Also Star Wars crap won't fly here. You get jack from strapping on a "warp sled" (which actually is a "jump slingshot")
I'm sure there will be some mass-related bullshit to prevent effective use of a jumpdrive you dock to from side-stepping the limitations.
Really this is an issue of bad game design.
It would make more sense for the jumpdrives needing something to jump to, like a titan deployed close to enemy base or a beacon on the other side of the galaxy.
Meanwhile something like the probably forgotten warpdrive would be used for cruising around the galaxy. It also allows one to place interdiction fields, prompting more player interactions, whether it's pirate ambush, demand for a "toll" to pass through someone's space or simply trader peddling his wares the hard way.

Values for config are development values and could change massively between now and powers official release.

While I like seeing Chain Drives die a painful death I'd also like to see them replaced by upgraded warpgates and/or some kind of auto jump final upgrade that can be turned on and off. Warpgates gaining new functionality so they can get a lock on another warpgate by some kind of dialing device either on the station, ship or both would also help with some issues.

This thread is like watching a Black Friday Walmart stampede crossed with a Trump rally. -= -= -=:cautious:

Why not just wait for the release and then try it out? There's little we can do about it in the mean time.

The longer we wait with devs being all silent about the update, the higher the "crazy meter" will go.
And while we wait, we can mull over what we've seen so far and form preliminary suggestions, like finding ways to avert the doom stick catastrophe, come up with wacky chamber effects and generally entertain each other by exchanging pleasantries.
Beats sitting on our hands and hoping the devs would release the goddamn update already any day.

I swear, neither the universe or the weapon rework would whip this meager community into frenzy as much as this update did.
Then again, it's a rework of a core system, with plenty of other systems affected and changed as well.
We could really do with more transparency from Schine.

Whammy, keep the logic out of it. That belongs somewhere else. [/sarcasm]
    Fair enough, good sir. ;)

Regarding Doom sticks: Does anyone know how the stabilizer distance scales in relation to reactor size? Also, I have to wonder what kind (if any) turning penalties a dedicated Doom Stick might have.

If I understood correctly, stabilizer maximum efficiency distance depends on reactor "tier", aka it being above certain size.
Regarding doom sticks - really bad pitch and yaw, unless truckloads of thrusters are present, with ≈90% of thrust going to turning.
Would make one hell of a "sniper ship" though.

I take it you guys meant here the internal dev build - that was revealed on stream? Or?

Doesn't have to. We're all perfectly capable of acting like adults.

I think its safe to say that the devs know that this is a potential risk and either are okay with it or are working to prevent it. I don't think they have to be told "Stuff going far away from each other promotes long ships".

Have a little faith that they aren't complete and utter noobs that have never played a video game before.
We could really do with more transparency from Schine.
Actually with all the shit they got for the power update, they could use a little LESS transparency.

They let slip that this power update was something they were brainstorming about months ago, and there are threads right now claiming that Schine has been promising us "imminent release" of the new system all this time.

I think they've learned their lesson, just like every other company. Keep your cards close to your vest and don't show ANYTHING until its nearly done.

What, and instead have NO information for the few months? So nobody has any idea how it works, and end up with a repeat of New power 1? That's fucking stupid.

What they should have done is not claimed it'd be out in "2-3 weeks" every 2-3 weeks it seems.

So in essence, they'll increase the penalty for extreme giantism with a choice between even slower turning or fast turning with crap systems? That makes sense. I am curious about those reactor tiers though. I can't wait to play with the build to find out the details.

I remember seeing that news and getting all giggly. I would definitely mess around with a dev build if given the chance.

But seeing how it's been a over month since that news post was released, I'm wondering if they had difficulties and pushed it back or something. Transparency or not, it would be nice to know to what extent the release may have pushed back. ...Unless they're secretly about to release it in the next few days... (crickets chirping)

I wouldn't word it exactly like that, it's rather something like: "oversized titan reactors will require stabilizers to be far away to stay efficient".
In turn (pun not intended), that means longer ships with rapidly worsening unassisted turn rates. Though there was a turn rate effect in mobility chamber, so one theoretically could sacrifice some reactor capacity for tolerable maneuverability.

Interestingly enough, multiple reactors can share stabilizers, so it's entirely possible to build identical reactors with different chamber trees and only one stabilizer blob on the other end of the ship.
Although you'll have to content with chamber power-up time when switching to another reactor.
I am curious about those reactor tiers though.
Reactor's "tier", or level actually, is basically it's size, only it doesn't change every time you place or remove a reactor block, most of the time.
During the stream we could see in reactor menu the level of a reactor and the block count for said level. For example: Level 0 reactor is 0-10 blocks.
Anyway, the small, low-level reactors supposedly won't need stabilizers to function at full/high efficiency.

Anyone in Schine know whats up? Has some delays happened due to e.g game breaking bugs? Cause double the amount of time has elapsed compared to what was estimated in august.

It's taken longer then expected. We'll have a dev build you to as soon as possible.

In this cases that occurs often, you should make short news to explain briefly the bug you encounter that delay releases. It it is always better to tell something to people that are waiting than staying quiet

I guess everyone is waiting almost eternity for this update to test.
