Looks like they all got rotated (hull does have rotation, you just can't use it normally)

Proxima_Centauri It's because i'm a terrible person and painted in a bevel and directional lighting to the texture itself. This means the texture itself can be rotated and be at odds with global lighting and surrounding blocks.

It's a hacky trick to give the illusion of protrusions.

The good news is the coming texture set eradicates all lit bevels. The bad news is we're all stuck with the current hulls for the time being.

Before this update, they weren't doing it on a mirror, the only way to get it that I know of was to copy paste and rotate that way. let you make very subtle azteking :P

Someone should probably submit a bug report, but I'm too lazy <3

I know you don't want to specifically spoil anything yet but how much of an overhaul is the new texture set? Is it a radical re-design or overall minor tweaks?

He answered this, it's a complete fresh start, but everything will be vaguley the same, so strange design elements shouldn't be too fucked :)

Like jstenholt has mentioned we also get requests to show logic signals via display blocks... Could be more flexible this way? (if a little less decorative in some senses).
I don't know if you could call it less decorative. It's just that the labor required to get a good level of detail on a display block is a bit more involved. Like what ToasterBorst has been doing.

Please leave the bevels on basic hull. It's very useful for floor tiles or other interior stuff (pretty much everyone uses it for interior afaik). Basically, removing the bevel will make floors and other elements look plain as f*ck and will completely obliterate existing interior aesthetics.

It won't look plain. I believe kupu is talking about removing the fake lighting, not the bevel. with normal mapping it'll still appear correct, even when disabled i'm sure it'll look okay.

No no, you've misunderstood. There is a chamfer to it's edge as part of the design, but that's not the issue. The issue is that advanced hull has lighting information painted into that chamfer / bevel. Meaning you can rotate the block at odds with the lighting.

    See:

Basic hull doesn't really suffer from such a thing.

I just found something strange on my white hull, that I've never seen before. When the sun reflects just right, it creates a line down the side. screenshot below.

Is it everybody or just me? Because if it's just me, I can easily ignore it.
I've been having that issue as well.
We had a few reports of it, but nothing at all obvious in the textures show them as the cause unless they corrupted during download.
If you would like to rule out that possibility then please delete T000_NRM.tga and repair the installation via the launcher option.

If it does not fix the issue, i will thoroughly investigate potential causes.

Okay, so I ultimately ended up deleting these folders...

    data\textures\block\Default\64
    data\textures\block\Default\128
    data\textures\block\Default\256
    data\textures\block\Pixel\64

then doing a Options & Repair > select newest version > Download

It did not like it when I only deleted the individual files and tried to repair. (crash on launch or wrong textures)
It also did not like it when I switched texture packs too many times in a row. (stopped changing, I should probably make a phab ticket for this, different issue)

I still have the strange bar in reflected sun light, but it only happens on the default 128 texture pack. Not on the 64 or 256. I managed to delete and redownload the default\128 folder twice, and it still happened.

I'm not that bothered by it, just so you know. Also, let me know if I should make a phabricator ticket instead of typing this wall of text in your thread. Probably what I should have done to start with...

    Thankyou for checking and testing.
I've found the issue and will place the fix into the next build.

No need to make a Phab ticket for this one. :)

I was wondering kupu if you were ever able to trace down the difference between Nvidia and Radeon cards in regards to rendering certain things like beams and plumes?
