as I might have brought up before, I do believe a dark red hull colour set would be highly beneficial for the building community.
It would be. There is almost no scenario where having a broader palette would hurt the creative side of the game. I too, would love more colours.

Please re-read the above after i deliver this bomb shell... we're not adding dark / light variants of colours right now.
It simply clogs up our ID system too much at this point in development.

We've responded to a multitude of potential solutions which would either decrease performance or add more ID's than we care to add right now. So i will have to summarise with this; Should we find an efficient way of adding lots more colour blocks to the game, i will push as hard as i can to get them added. :)

Since you brought up how crystals will potentially take on some of the characteristics of the current ice, I have two questions.

Will the current ice remain the same, seeing as it is now so integral to so many of our builds.

Can you maybe shed some light on how ice interacts with lights and crystals? I mean, I love the way it currently behaves and the weird trial and error process that goes into combining ice and light, but I can't figure out for the life of me how it works.

This sentence confuses me. If you literally mean either-or (as in some possible solutions would make the game run slower, and others would not but instead add a ridiculous amount of IDs) then why would there be "more IDs than you care to add right now"? Isn't an infinite number technically ideal, if it didn't mess up performance? If you don't mean literally either or, then why was it phrased this way?

why was it phrased this way?
Because i have terrible literacy skills i guess.

    Me no want;
    1) RGB sliders.
    2) Mass consumption of unique (limited) ID's to achieve colour variants.

    Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, it will stay the same.

Me neither. I wish i could give a neat technical explanation as to why it works exactly as it does... but i can't. All i know is the lighting is additive, and i'd bet that has something to do with it. Ice blocks have no special properties. Any partially transparent block would react the same.

Why don't you just let the slab squash the texture for mesh / grill / scaffolding?

I considered it, for sure. But it's not pretty and i'd really like to provide these options when rotational problems are fixed and looking correct.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
I think the metal grilles are fairly squish-safe. Dunno about the rest.

I agree, if anything, the squashed sides will probably come out looking like a solid piece of metal.

Also I can't make blue liquid block go up/down
Yea, this is a known bug and is a problem with all blocks that use the same format.

I'll have a look. If there are too many dead rotations, or orientations that are not visually making any difference this probably won't be implemented.

It would awesome if it were possible to chose which "orientation IDs" a block uses for its available dataspace.

Yo kupu , any idea why this is happening on Teal Standard and ONLY on Teal Standard?

It seems to be a weird render glitch reminiscent of some older bugs, but it's literally only on these teal standard blocks and no other blocks.

If you need more info let me know.
:D I knew this had been reported somewhere!

So i actually found the exact cause for this and have got it fixed. Slowpoke Kupu! Figured i'd let people know so we can confirm it as fixed after the next release.

Any chance we'll be seeing heptas/tetras/wedges of the rock types?

...Or at least carved stone wedges?
Wedges? Yes, i'd like to add these after a new project is completed that i'll reference further down.

Any chance we'll be seeing heptas/tetras/wedges of the rock types?
Hepta's and tetras are less likely, as i imagine slabs would be more useful potentially? I've not considered adding more than wedges just yet...

I've received a lot of good suggestions recently here in this thread and i've casually been telling you all they're planned or underway.
If i were the one asking for fixes and improvements, i'd probably like to know how progress stands on them and make sure they've not slipped through the cracks. So in horribly vague and unsatisfying terms, i'll try and give a quick status update!

Schine has recently been gearing up for larger features, more polish, more fixes. Simply put, "better" content. We've been trying really hard to start laying down more solid foundations to build upon... You've heard all this before. ^^

The art department is no different. We've been busy overhauling textures, getting animation pipelines ready, slowly ticking off unique player gear and exploring the future of our more visual aspects of Starmade and how the player interacts with it.

So the little things such as creating a Hull Hardener sprite that isn't brown paint or fixing a couple of crappy block textures and adding new decorative items are still planned. However these will all be achieved under one of my current projects i have underway, completely new game textures. (Don't worry critics of our user experience or learning curve, we are actively working on more than just beautifying what we have).

    - The beacon enthusiast's impassioned plea for more beacons has been added as a feature request.
    - Odd teal texture bug has been squashed
    - White-out colours in the sun has been fixed
    - Brown paint instead of hardener will be fixed with new texture set
    - Crappy crystals will be fixed with new texture set
    - "The Wedgening part 2" will commence after the new texture set.
    - Mesh / Grill / Scaffold slabs will come with the new texture set.

If you have something to add to this list that i've forgotten, please put it in a post.
If there is something that really bugs you about the current texture set that just HAS to be fixed, put it in a post and we can evaluate it for the newer versions.

New texture set? Is this going to be major fundamental changes to the textures, or just a major refinement of the current textures, but everything will be basically the same?

    Much needed; good news.

This sounds interesting... if only we could get some specifics... ;)

For the most part, a major refinement. I don't intend to pull the rug from under anybodies feet and confuse everyone with radically new textures. Lots of blocks will follow the same fundamental design, others that need it will be redesigned but hopefully stay recognisable.

It's a good opportunity as i mentioned to kill some bad blocks and have the re-imagined. *cough* undeathinator.
It also never hurts to look better at no performance cost...

Hi everyone, glad to hear that new textures are on the way and impatient to have a look at your latest work.

I don't know if it is the right thread to talk about it kupu, Could the scanner antenna become an orientable block ? any news on ladder/climbable block ?

A last very important thing, remember : tan colour is love, tan colour is life, tan colour is the matter that make cookie ships

This is the perfect place to talk about it.

The scanner antenna could be orientable, yes. I will add it to the list of little tasks i have for this coming release.
Ladder / Climbable blocks have not been planned. Something to consider in the future though.

How far along are you with this texture revamp anyway, Kupu?
About 30% done. Nothing to get excited about just yet. But enough to feel the project is firmly underway with a couple of new processes worked out.
