The Mercury MAEFLY-99 gen2 is an updgraded version of the original MAEFLY-99 gen2 design. Tradeoffs have been made from hull integrity in favor of increased agility and lethality. Cat19 Skunkworks was contracted by the royal family of a prominent planetary monarchy to construct this variation on the gen2 to serve as a royal guard.
The MAEFLY-99 gen2 is equipped with 6 gatling laser cannons, a shield drain system, and an explosive missile array. The ship also features a powerful jump drive, an advanced scanner, and a transporter. Marked improvements have been made to the ship's power, shields, and thruster systems.

The MAEFLY-99 gen2 is as capable of close quarters combat as it is long-term exploration. There has been extensive work concentrated on the ship's interior. The addition of new creature comforts has prolonged the maximum sortie longevity by a factor of nine.

Though the MAEFLY-99 gen2 is designed for a single pilot, it can support a crew of up to 5. The onboard computer plays host to an AI developed to offset the loneliness felt by explorers on extended missions. The AI's individual personalities are completely unique from MAEFLY to MAEFLY.
