Light Beam Frigate
The idea behind this ship is something very simple and EZ to manufacture that can be used to bolster or shore up fleets that already have a core of capital ships (cruisers, battleships, carrier, etc).
She's small and agile, and probably will not be seen as a serious threat at just shy of 2K mass. With a heavy ion sniper beam as a primary weapon though, more than a couple of these little guys can add up to a real problem for larger capitals if not eliminated quickly. This makes them a fantastic addition to any fleet, and losing a few in an engagement is no big deal because their production recipe is relatively simple (cost is about 8.5 million credits per frigate).
In ones and twos they make decent escorts for slow-moving and vulnerable carriers or industrial ships, presenting enemies with an aggressive target to draw fire away from your prizes by posing a credible threat to all but the largest ships.
Shields are light, armor is standard, but the bridge is reinforced with additional standard armor, an interior layer of hull, and the ship's weapon console itself is wrapped in its own shell of advanced armor, allowing her to withstand a few direct hits even from heavy, capital weapons before being crippled or killed. Hardpoints for 7 point defense (anti-missile) turrets mean she can be fitted with a respectable degree of nuke-resistance.
She sports 2 light anti-fighter turrets, which along with her secondary weapon (an explosive sniper beam 2/3 the size of her main) allow her to take a commanding anti-fighter role.
Power grid is quite stable, but quickly depleted if both weapons are fired reducing firing options at times.
Give her a spin and let me know what you think!
