While at work, a job that prevents me from playing as much as I want, I was brainstorming for ship ideas and I came up with this body shape I really liked. Originally it was going to be a super carrier, but upon reminding myself I really need to stop building in orbit above the planet I have been, I decided a battlecruiser to hold off pirates while embarking on future projects would be much more useful.
I'm still pretty early in, but decided to post this up so I can get some feedback and ideas on various aspects.
So first off, here's an exterior shot: (back end is closest to camera, front end is furthest away)
The cut away rectangles at the rear and front will be AMT batteries. Currently, this is 32 AMT emplacements, though I am considering adding another battery somewhere in the middle trench area. Roughly in the area of the lights on the front is where I currently plan on putting the primary turrets, which will be programmed to aim at target, which logic wired to enable/disable AI. This will allow me to select a target without firing on it if undesired, but will also allow me to focus fire from my heaviest guns on whatever target I wish without having to keep myself facing it. Secondary, anti-fighter turrets will have batteries on various surfaces. Currently, I'm unsure what to do about the center structure as I don't want it to be just grey rectangles, obviously.
Next, the core room:
As the ship progresses, I'll replace several of the server racks with weapons computers. The main doorway is not visible in this picture, but there are two smaller doorways, one shown, that will lead to a large room containing logic, with password protected access. I will get into my logic plans in a future update, unless someone asks what my ideas are before then.
Drop Pod:
I will have enough drop pods to land a few squads of highly trained marines on a planet. I went ahead and made the pod as I intend to make the tubes and related rooms next, since they will greatly dictate how a portion of the bottom outer surface will look. I will make escape pods later as well, but they will probably shoot out the middle trench rather than the bottom.
Hangar... ish (ok, just a hangar force-field, I guess):
I decided to go for the fairly popular water-as-force-field approach so that it wouldn't have to be toggled, can be flown throw, but still blocks fire. There will also be a rain blast door added in the future. Note, this angle shows the inside face of the force-field, and exits into a hollow area like on the belly of Star Destroyers (such as where the Tantive IV was boarded in SW ANH), and I intend to design a corvette that will fit comfortably there sometime in the future. The hangar will fit a couple dropships for retrieving the aforementioned elite marines, and a place for cargo and cargo pods to be dropped by supply ships. Essentially, this hangar will be primarily for supplies and personal to be transported through, and will likely not feature any drones or fighters.
