I've been trying to set up my gate on the planet I use as my base, but it also won't work, and I can't really figure out a 'left' side to a planet

(I have a functioning warp gate on a station 144 sectors away and the limit on warps is 16 sectors in my SP)
You have to build gates on mount everest (with nothing behind/in front of it).

I think it checks behind / infront in only one axis (can't test right now I have general driver problems)

Well I didn't build it on a mountain, but there is this thing that I made it on a surface I completely flattened out

Alright, been reading through several threads now and did some testing of my own.

NOTE: These are all new stations.

    What I found:
-Multiple gates on 1 station results in only one of them working as a departing point.
-A horizontal shape (parallel with the X Y plane) resulted in a broken gate, could not depart unless i changed it to an upright gate again.

@Elo106 , can you give me some more details about that? Left and right is in a 3d oriented space is a little bit confusing. Maybe tell me the vector direction, like 0 0 1 (means the direction going from 2 2 2 to 2 2 3 for example).

Left and right was based on the direction a docked ship would face. If you dock a ship on the station (while the docking block looks upwards(normal way to dock)).

Thank you, I'll check it out tomorrow morning when I have some time. Will have to find some older stations since it only seems to happen on these (haven't found anything odd on new stations, at least not with this particular placement issue).

Finally found the real problem. It seems that certain orientations relative to the station origin's point doesn't work. That makes 8 areas where either 0/1/2 or all 3 orientations work. There is only 1 of the 8 areas that have all 3 working orientations (the positive X Y Z side) and that explains why some people had problems with them and some didn't.

    So what about planets?
I think it's safe to assume the same thing happens on planets. Gate orientation/location relative to the planet segment's origin point. Since it's impossible to make a gate under a segment I think 6 of the 12 possible orientation+ location will not work.

Picture that shows all NOT working gates.

There are 8 possible areas that each have their own collection of not working gate orientations.

    6 of the 8 horizontal (X-Z) gates don't work.
    4 of the 8 horizontal (X-Y) gates don't work.
    4 of the 8 horizontal (Y-Z) gates don't work.

    All 3 orientations in the +X +Y +Z location work, 2 orientations work in +X +Y -Z, +X -Y +Z, -X +Y +Z and 1 orientation works in +X -Y -Z, -X +Y -Z, -X -Y +Z.
There are 2 horizontal gates don't follow this pattern.
