Out of all the ships up for download I\'ve found I like the VFW designs the most. They\'re not godly overpowered with weapons or massive in size and useless. They\'re practical and easy to modify. I get a kick out of the production stories behind them, it gives the ships character. I\'m looking forward to these capitol ships being built so I can add them to my growing fleet.

I did some minor modifications so your ships fit my fleet\'s needs better.

Simple repaint on the Tremelo fighter and Forte Gunship. Sonnet bomber got fitted with guided missles.

Dirge class frigate also got a repaint and new guided missles, four banks each capable of 350-ish damage without modification.

It\'s heartening to see our fine ships being used as intended! I don\'t have a face, but if I did, it would contain the biggest of smiles. Thanks, Foehammer!

Are these turrets battle-tested? The Colony of Chadura has always problems with their bigger turrets, cause the AI bugs them through the hull.

It is an unfortunate truth that the current Vecordean Fleetworks Super Duper Block-O-Matic Sample Simulator Software is still in alpha and, as such, will exhibit various turret-associated bugs no matter what the design may be. We\'ve not bumped into any problems, but we do have an exceptionally powerful machine. Also, we employ the darkest of sorceries to ensure that we never notice any of the millions of little problems our designs have. That said, the turret assemblies are modular and you can simply replace them with a different design if you so choose if they prove problematic for you.

Fun fact: The port and starboard turret mounts on the Dirge are capable of supporting much larger turrets and it\'s reactors can handle the additional load without much fuss. We\'re considering releasing a few alternate turret designs for download at a later date, such as heavy torpedos or small planteary siege arrays. You won\'t get destroyer-level performance out of them, mind, but more configuration options are never a bad thing.

I would quite enjoy some form of scout frigate from Vecordean, anyone else?

We do have a scout frigate. It\'s called the Drige-class and there\'s a download link to it in this very thread. True story!

Here at AVA Industries we just learned that there is a shortage of Yellowtanium caused by the recent production release of your Nocturne class ship. Our lead designers are impressed with the capabilities of said craft.

We have decided to push through with the completion of our Three capital class ships in answer to VFWs powerful push towards claiming the market on Yellow warships.

She\'s taken a hell of an effort, but the Nocturne\'s essentially done. She lacks some interior detailing, but her systems are complete and she can be deployed with confidence. We\'re holding off on releasing the production specs until we\'ve finished with the upper deck. As you can see, it\'s largely empty, though the doors at the end lead to the enormous hull-mounted anti-shipping cannon.

The gun itself can be seen here. She\'s only 20 meters long, but is seven meters across and is about the equivalent of the Nocturne\'s Naval-Grade cannons thanks to additional weapon generators on either side of the barrel.

Here\'s a shot of the bridge. Advanced Button-based Computering Systems were specially crafted out of the remains of much, much better Computering Systems just for this ship! Through the heavy blast-doors at the end is the core of the ship.

The Nocturne\'s Crew will serve in comfort, thanks to spacious two-man, dormitory-style quarters. There are twelve rooms, each with two beds, two personal lockers, a desk, a small table, and a hidden stash of exotic and shameful pornography! There are additionaly two officers quarters, with single rooms and fancier pornographies.

Speaking of comfort, take a look at our space-age toilets! Really, though, you need to make sure the gravity is turned on before you use them or you may suffer from a catastrophic \"floaty log\" situation. Your drones don\'t need privacy and the shame they feel as they try to avoid both eye contact and looking at each other\'s most personal business will help keep them from getting too upiddy.

Here\'s the reactor room, where our patented Orphan Fusion Funnels turn unwanted humanity into sweet, sweet power. Please try to use high-grade orphans as low grade orphans cause the reactor to murmur and guffaw and it\'s control systems to achieve sentience.

Finally, an exterior shot of the Nocturne with its final paint job. It\'s followed by a nose-on shot to show off it\'s sweet Wingy-Thing emblems and multiple murder-barrels.

For some reason, the turrets on the Dirge are now inside out. We tried to fix it, but you know. Quantums.

I noticed while building some side-mounted turrets recently, that the turret blocks are highlighting the opposite side from the turret\'s actual facing - perhaps something changed in the recent update which caused that, as well as your issue? I dunno.

Edit: Note that this appeared to only affect side-facing turrets, not up/down facing ones.

The Nocturne is joining my fleet for sure. It is in desperate need of a capitol warship as I have no artistic ability and cannot make anything that looks that good. Also, one of our newly aquired Dirge class frigates saw combat for the first time and performed flawlessly. Thank you VFW for such high quality work. Is there any news on the Octet class carrier, our squadrons of Tremelo\'s and Sonnet\'s cannot stray far until they have proper carrier support.

The turret bug started for me yesterday with the updates and only seems to happen with those that are side mounted, but if I enter them and go to flight mode and exit they go back to normal. But I have to do it everytime I login.

We here at AVA Industries were invited to get a sneak-peak at VFW\'s new Destroyer and our represenative was impressed with the scale and power of this new warship. We ourselves have been running combat tests with the Dirge Frigate and our recently descovered Battlepod design and are looking forward to doing simular tests with the Nocturne once it is available.

After completeing the Nocturne, we\'ll be taking a short break to focus on a few small scale projects before ramping up to our next big one.

Project AwesomenameOne is a planned overhaul of the Dirge. We\'ll be taking advantage of the many lessons we learned from the Nocturne to update the Dirge\'s systems. We\'ll be redesigning the primary turret mounts to free up interior space and adding a linear AMC array to provide some extra punch against larger ships. The turrets themselves will be redesigned to provide greater firepower and increased resiliency. We will also provide at least one additional turret schematic that can be installed on the Dirge to alter her capabilities. This overhaul will have a minimal impact on the exterior appearance of the ship. This may need to wait, unfortunately, until the current quantum turret inversion issue is resolved.

Project AwesomenameTwo is a nearly complete redesign of our escort Carrier concept. We will be starting with a Nocturne hull and working from there. The \"Octet\" designation will replaced with the less number-specific \"Ensemble\". Early estimates place her fighter capacity at 10, with at least one additional multi-purpose utility dock. She\'ll be larger, and much more heavily armed than the Octet, employing a few of the frigate-class turrets in addition to our ubiquitious triple-barrel turret design.

After that? On to bigger, and bolder things.

Remember! You can\'t spell \"qVFWality\" without VFW!

Right! So, more news for all of our valued and beloved customers and reviled competitors:

First! We\'ve included all of our ships along with their download links in the initial catalog thread. This is more efficient than having to scour our increasingly bloated thread to find a link to the ship you want.

Second! Project AwesomenameOne has been completed. The Dirge now features a functional interior and various other improvements to its shields, weapons, and turret systems. The updated Dirge can be downloaded from the link provided in the Original Post. You\'ll find the download page also links you to an alternate turret design; a quad dumb-fire siege missiles for planetary bombardment or for engaging heavy ships. We don\'t recommend replacing both turrets unless you\'ve got some additional firepower to bring down enemy shields.

Greetings from the farthest reaches of the black expanse,

We of the Black Sun Empire recently...acquired one of your Nocturne class warships for combat drill against our Destro mk1 turrets, and we have some advice to offer involving your shielding around the core. While your vessel performed admirably bow-on, she did not fare very well when she displayed her port or starboard flanks, nor did she fare too well when displaying her belly.

To her credit, our turrets are quite large and have eight barrels and are merely seige cannons, but we feel they cut through the Nocturne\'s shielding much too quickly. We feel felt quite bad destroying a lovely ship, but we wished to test our turrets before putting them on the flagship for our black-ops fleet.

    Sincerely,

    Emperor Et\'erun

Just a heads up, turrets have to power their own shields, so any turret that you intend to be shielded must contain at least one power generation block (I\'ve found that 1-3 blocks work just fine for point defence turrets, with more needed for larger turrets).

We\'re well aware that our vessels underperform in a broadside.

That\'s why we say specifically in all of our manuals NOT TO DO THAT. It\'s even in the catalog page at the start of this thread. VFW ships are designed to engage head-on. If you attempt to broadside with them against a similar ship, you will lose.

Well...at least she was lovely to look at. *weep weep*

Just, as a designer\'s note here: I\'m usually aware of the weak points on all of my ships. Often, they are intentional. The drive sections in particular are incredibly vulnerable once the ship\'s shields go down. They don\'t do well in broadsides due to a relatively thin cross-section, poor lateral turret placement, and the aformentioned drive vulnerability. Their shields are often weaker than other ships in their size class because I dedicate a reasonable, sem-believable amount of interior space to an actual, functional interior. I can \"fix\" any of these issues, but I probably never will. I decided when I started designing ships that invincible space bricks were boring and that the ships I put together would be fun to pilot, interesting to explore, and fun to blow up. If you want an invincible space brick, there are plenty of options. Some of them are even quite attractive. It\'s just that my ships aren\'t them.

If you find that my ships underperform for their size, feel free to spend half an hour rennovating the insides to suit your taste. I actually recommend using them as pirates, where they provide a reasonable challenge without being overpowered at all.

All that said, I\'d like to see the design for your super-big ship. :D
