Presenting the UCS FR-94179 M.A.M.M.O.T.H. (Mission Adaptive Module Mount Or Transport Housing)

The Mammoth is specifically designed for a colony support role. It\'s built to carry four mission adaptive modules, be able to land and allow access to the modules when on the surface. Each of the four bays are designed to be operated from inside the modules to make docking and departing a smooth operation. She also has for landing pads for M-805s or whatever else the mission requires.

Even without it\'s modules the Mammoth is still has all the amenities for missions into deep space including a med bay, aeroponics, galley, two dinning halls, cargo bay + crate mounts, and lots of crew accommodations. Not being a military ship even the most basic barracks are roomier and the upper deck is reserved for high status officials and features roomy single bed quarters, access to the observation deck, and a private washroom.

Being a civilian colony support The Mammoth is not equipped with any offensive weapons but does feature an array of defensive turrets including four L4-1 A-2 Turrets, six L0 Phalanx PD Turrets and twelve L1 CIWS Deckguns. Military vessels or civilian escort frigates should always be assigned to protection detail of the Mammoth.

    The MAMs:
Currently the only M.A.M. built is the Nightingale but more are planned. The Nightingale has two control closets on board to interface with the Mammoths docking bays. Other MAMs will feature a similar interface.

When the light is red the main hatch is open and the docking collar is not engaged

When the green light is activated the outer door and display shields are open

You definetely pull of function well. Also, just because you go for the utilarian doesn\'t mean it isn\'t artistic, I personally think they look great.

I was a little confused about the MAM\'s at first, but I watched your video, and suddenly everything made sense. I think it\'s an absolute genius idea, and it works great too. Good job :)

I knew the docking of the M.A.M.s would need a little better explanation than just pictures. I didn\'t even think of the inability to dock through the plex doors until they were built but the port hole works well. Hopefully I\'ll be able to just put cockpits facing down (they were buggy when this was built and I\'m not sure if the patch corrected that) but that would require actually being able to pilot a M.A.M. into the dock manually to work.

I actually thought the port hole was a great idea. I\'m interested to see what other M.A.M.s you come up with :)

I\'m not really sure what to do with the other M.A.M.s besides an areoponics one, I already have a standard design for my aeroponics / protein resequencer as I\'ve already used it on the Scycle and Mammoth. I do want a science lab but I am not sure how to make it easily identified as being a science lab. Medical bay you slap a red + on the wall and people go \"oh that\'s a med bay\". If only you could place science bottles as decorations... at least I don\'t think you can...

I\'ve also got a few in progress screen shots of the Mammoth if anybody has interest in seeing them.

You should put some astrotechs on those medical things, just to give it some actual use.

I tried one once, looked like a whitewashed room with a table.

As for other M.A.M.s, you could have something fairly basic, like a living quarters, because everyone needs somewhere to live while in space, and since the Mammoth is designed for a colony supprt role, that could fit in. Especially in setting up the colony scenarios. Or maybe, some form of terraforming M.A.M. I know you already have salvagers, but it\'s an idea.

I wish you luck with your ideas :)

@ Wolfchild: Oh yeah a housing M.A.M. is on the list but just some rooms and wash facilities isn\'t that interesting, it\'s a shame you cannot add modules that have more of a mothership support role. I\'ve seen suggestions for things like adding power and shields through docked ships. Hmm if we had chain docking I could make like a maintenance M.A.M. that could hold repair bots and perhaps other construction type equipment...

@Snk: No it doesn\'t have to have an actual use, it\'s a decorative concept ship. It only exists going off an RP concept of \"what if my Starmade server was real life, what kind of ships might there be?\"

I made a \"Slideshow\" of the progress shots if there is any interest in that. http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Daray_Ryo/slideshow/Starmade/Mammoth/progress

Your method of building is very logical, but I suppose it has to be for a ship of those functions. I tend to just slap on some hull and hope for the best.

Not really, but it\'s not quite as methodical what that slideshow... Uh... Showed. I had been thinking about how hard it must have been to get all the measurements exact.

You can\'t see all the method that goes into a ship bassed on the few in progress shots I managed to take, when I get into the swing of things it\'s imposible to step back, snap a picture, and get back to builing. As for the measurments when you know exactly what docking size you need to fit something into it\'s quite easy to set that up and build around it. I made the nightengale with a perfectly centered core, and she was very square so it would ultimately fit.

I never take progress shots, always slips my mind.

The shape of the nightengale, as you said, must have helped.

I had to go back and look at the pictures, I was all like \"Yellow ship?! What yellow ship?!\"

That\'s my repair bot, I had to use it to repair all the damage my turrets did durring construction so I ended up just parking that there. It stayed docked pretty much the entire time I was building it and I only moved it to take the promo shots.

i was playing around with the MAMMOTH, tossing a few ideas on MAMs i wanted to biuld, and i disscovered that you have two turret docks in the MAM docking ports. i dont know how to use the image button so scroll up and find the one with the nightgale docked in the mammoth and youll find what if found.

    so to my question

WHY DID YOU PUT THEM THEIR IF THE M.A.M.M.O.T.H IS MEANT TO BE A SHIP THAT HAS TO BE ESCORTED

You never want to leave a ship defenceless even if it is ultimately meant to he escorted. The M.A.M.M.O.T.H. is also intended to land and service colonies for extended periods of time without escorts. The lower guns are to deter looters, vandals, and other dissidents from ground incursions. The universe is a dangerous place

While not specifically a military craft The M.A.M.M.O.T.H. Is more than capable of being used as a staging area or for the transportation/recovery of (Hence the \"T.H.\" In Mammoth) many small short range military craft. Let the crew stretch their legs, relax, shower, refuel and rearm their ship.

Here you can see a Condor Gunship neatly tucked away inside a M.A.M. Mount
