    A few other thread on tracking beacons but all from last summer, so rather and re-animating a corpse.. here we go again:

    Use the scanner to 'target' an ship, it fires a missile like object and if it hits that ship is locatable for a duration in proportion to the size of the scanner array. If you outside the ships sector is only tells you which sector it is in, if you are in the same sector it give you the exact location. Have the information shared faction wide (of course). This should be unaffected by a cloaker but 'temporarily' disabled by a radar jammer (as long as it's active).

    This should be destroyed with a damage pulse though.

    When I saw the title I was thinking about a beacon to find your own ships :D

    This would be useful to track a ship after it jumps away or to find out their secret base, but also incredibly annoying when you are the one that is being tracked in a slower ship than enemy's.
