    Hi,

Here is my new anti ship defence turret (I have no name for this one) Edit: I think I call it Tri-Hammer Cannon
I cannot fault the turret base design as it is very similar to how I build turret bases, but the barrel is lacking in form and function simultaneously. You have decided to trade dakka for the addition of more fancy barrels that have lights on them that will consequently deal less damage. My suggestion is to instead make the barrels into one single barrel, then make them larger as to increase the dakka. As of right now it looks adorable, as turrets are not supposed to look adorable as they are neither human nor creature in general. Being adorable is something only Rogal Dorn is supposed to be.

    It's all Magnus fault!

It should be look like a close range relative fast firing anti frigate/cruiser cannon, and in that case I think I hit the design.
And as long the current weaponmechanics not feel in the slightest autentic, I dont care for efficiency.
another thing is if I would make the barrels larger it would not look good in comparsion with the rest of the ship. The ship has two giant railgunturrets and I think they look better if the defence look meaninless compared to them.

In the efficincy thing you have right, but efficincy isnt my aimpoint.

It might not be the longest, but do you have balls like mine?

    View attachment 32753

Made this a while ago. The turret can freely rotate 360° in all directions, the actual firing arc is a little less than 180°. The individual parts of the outer ring move asynchronously due to GIF recording, and the GIF is too fast, it looks better in-game.

    View attachment 32756

Switched all lights on manually for demonstration purposes. The green lights indicate that the outer ring is closed, there's one light for each entity. The six yellow lights next to the green ones show that the ring is opening or closing. When the ring is fully opened, the red lights are on. The two yellow lights in the middle indicate movement of the eye lids. While an opening or closing sequence is running, no further input is accepted.

The circuit sequentially opens the ring, opens or closes the lids and closes the ring again. How that works is explained in detail in my logic thread.
That is absolutely insanely beautiful! Any chance we could download it for a bit of play and dissection:?
Once again thank you for you guides and amazing content

Eh, could be they reached a good block destruction threshold for each one and decided to have some fun with it.

Nah they empty maybe I fill them with pink hull as placeholder, it simply dosent make fun to fill them with systems just to see that they cant do anything cause most of the weaponlayouts I like (Heavy Cannons, Shotguns, Siege-Beams) not working autentic or simply helpless underpowerd compared to "weaker" weaponlayouts like rapidfire cannons or Beam layouts. I also hate weapon wafiling. When I build a big Barrel then I want to shot a big bullet that make a big hole. It make no fun to make weapon systems cause everthing that not follow the meta (cancer like concept that destroy games) is weak and trying to make interesting weapons will always jugded with failing. Seriosly if shine fail in making their weaponssystems interesting AND balanced they should throw it away and should make prefab weapons.

You're right, it is. Thats why you should ignore it.

Seriously. The bleeding edge people are the ones using exploits and unintended behaviors, and they are the ones that get pissy when things get fixed and they have to redo everything every time a major patch comes out.

Just not worth it. Build what you like, save empty shells of your favorite stuff, and don't worry about the rest. Everything we have now is going to be invalidated sooner or later, people just seem to forget that.

You're wrong. Thinking this way just makes you as dumb as the one following meta without asking.

You're incorrect. Thinking this way just makes you as dumb as the one following meta without asking.
By don't follow it, I mean don't go looking for it to try and emulate.

Build what you like, test it yourself, see what works. If your turrets are big enough to take out what you want to take out, then you built them correctly. You don't need an uber-turret that can shoot a player ship out of the sky in 2 hits if you're not part of the hardcore meta following crowd.

You can be more than effective without ever worrying about that stuff.

You underestimate people and the reasons they play this game. Some chase meta because they are tryhards driven to win at any cost, some chase meta so they can have the most enjoyment possible from the game.

Within 48 hours of rails existing I found out how to quad tetra a single block space not for some petty thrill of being the coolest, but for the reason of flying my ship into enemy gunfire and tanking everything they could throw at me so as to see the will drain from their being.

I build guns and for that matter, turrets, to not only crush my enemy, but to crush their spirit. To see the will to fight leave someone is such an addictive feeling and I only seek it more with each update bringing new things to achieve that goal.

My final point being, making a turret that can 2 shot any ship you will fight is not always about cheesy must win mentalities, some people just want to enjoy breaking their foes in more ways than one.

As the quote goes- What is the key to a good life? To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

this is a turret porn thread, go take your silly discussions somewhere else, we're here to get naughty turrets not stupid discussions about the game mechanics.

Here is another AMS! I didn't get much chance to test or refine this before my laptop died but it seemed to be up to the job.

It is pretty big and designed to protect stations more than ships. It is self powered and shielded and consists of 6 rapid fire cannons, a single shotgun and two upward firing m/m/stop (1/1/1 blocks) decoy missile launchers. The AI obviously fires these at incoming missiles but they eventually find your attacker and help to overwhelm any AMS they might have. The combo is harmless and in tests I had no problems with them hitting a nearby Trading Guild shop or Trader NPC Faction mining fleet.

So, here is my Naga Type AMS...

Here are a few close ups of the turrets for my former generation command ship; AFC Legendary Justice.
    Justice old.jpg
The ship and its weapons are ancient. It was designed before the rails update (when "coring" was still a thing) and was decommissioned; pending a total refit. The project was put on hold when Schine announced the power update.

Particle Burst Turret: Light anti-fighter defense; rapid fire and heavy armor for size.

Phalanx (standalone): Rapid fire assault cannon.

    Justice turrets med2.jpg

Phalanx Battery (composite): Rapid fire weapon system; fires guided missiles as a secondary.
    Justice turrets med.jpg

Dreihander seige turret: Fires 3 heavy armor piercing shells at long range.

Here's a recent project of mine. Wasn't intending to build this turret, but it happened organically while building another project. So I decided to follow it through and here it is. It's only a shell with a basic cannon for aesthetics at the moment. When the weapons/universe updates occur I could then do something with it. The black & white is the final colour scheme for my project, and the multi-coloured one was for working out shapes, angles, contrast and easier to see the various blocks.

Here's the turret applied to my project. It was originally primarily designed as an underhanging turret.

When I first looked at your pictures I thought the colorfull turrets would be your final product and didn't notice the b/w. At first I was like "yay a dude that makes colorfull ships not caring for any standards - but can this be true better read his post completely...". But I would preffer to use the b/w turret too.

I do have colourful ships, but this particular project is rather monotone for a reason. However, it can be coloured any way you want really. I like the red contrasting with the grey and I thought the yellow contrasted well with the grey to.

I also like colour coding my piping to give the illusion it has some kind of purposeful contents. Which is why I sometimes off-set blue/red or green/yellow or red/green. Depends what I'm thinking at the time I guess.
