    really screws the game for players that just like to build and play occasionally as to spending all their time mining...

    thumbs down - can't even showcase large ships on servers w/o a lot of mining
    -stores need way more stuff (and in balance) like modules, shields and hull (not computers and dirt) to counter this a bit
    Showcase ships? The admin commands to spawn a ship are still there.

    I really think shipyards are the key here. If you don't want to collect blocks yourself leave it to a shipyard and watch as freighters from all over the galaxy start arriving with needed blocks. Each time a delivery is made the ship would slowly grow. Man, that would be awesome to watch a titan being built this way. You still only need credits to buy the ship, but the blocks come from all over, they don't just POP into existence.

    I know I would be out scavenging/producing blocks just to watch it grow!

    you can still admin spawn them if you want to show your ship for a sec.
    But its for a greater good,its not about you.. its about the game

    Jokes a part, this is the end of the small factions and newbie iniciatives. Either join the big factions or die in boredom.
    I do not complain for my own interests because I've already worked hard on my factories. But I had the patience for that because I'm a long living veteran.

    I speak that because of the newcomers that will arrive with the steam release. This is our last chance of becoming a big game, and I fear that we are going to blow it. Most people might see this complexity and prefer to move out to space engineers...

    Quick edit to avoid double-post : Also, don't forget that system planet/asteroid eating will increase by 999999% percent. Expect to see a much emptier universe.

    Before I make up my opinion on this change, I'm curious, what is the final vision so far for the shipyards? And how long until implementation? If it is before the Steam release, then there should be no (few) problems. Otherwise, new players won't want to put up with the tedium and just leave.

    Also, I just noticed something. We are able to report our own posts... Is this an anti-hacking thing?

    Well, let's see. I and 2 friends (though one was rarely online) went out and built a decent faction homebase, a small fleet (5 or 6 fighters, 2 corvettes, and a frigate, plus a small and a large salvager) in about a week, with about an hour or two a day for each of us. I doubt that many people are going to see that as boring. Seeing your own fleet start to spring up after just a few hours of playing, while still having to play for a while to get a huge thing? That doesn't seem boring to me.

    Also, really? You're complaining that people are going to actually use the crafting system and go mining instead of summoning chunks of material out of thin air from credits when they run out?

    I know this is good for encouraging factories and reducing gigantism but it feels like a step backward in economic theory. We are moving from an advanced currency based economy to a barter economy. How many people build their own car/house/fridge/anything from raw materials. Money was invented to allow people to specialize in different skills and not be forced to make all their own stuff.
    Don't think of it as a step back for the economy, think of it as a step forward for realism. Supply and demand are the true forces in an economy, not fiat value for the goods (which was the buy-ship-with-credits system). Before, the market was unrealistic, because Schema was the one setting the price of ships and components at a flat rate. Now market pressures and scarcities can determine prices and make the economy actually exist. There are still options to buy the components, and there will be a system of shipyards (perhaps even trade guild shipyards?) where you can get a ship made for you.

    Also please note: These options are OPTIONAL, not mandatory. I think being able to just "get" a ship in a survival game is idiotic, but is perfectly fine for a battle or creative server. I love anything that adds options for more realism.[DOUBLEPOST=1417484620,1417484528][/DOUBLEPOST]
    With the amount of resources were gonna need it might be a good idea to have planets regenerate terrain (assuming they are not destroyed). It would add value to owning a system and real consequences for the actual destruction of a planet.

    Asteroids do re-spawn, and planet mining may be more difficult with gravity working differently.[DOUBLEPOST=1417484932][/DOUBLEPOST]
    That is good, unless the blueprint:
    • Has no known owner
    • Is your own blueprint
    I think Blueprints are going to be a metaitem that will have to be manually managed. If you want someone's blueprint, you have to ask for them or steal them.

    Agreed... ish... As long as all of this stuff actually gets implemented.

    Shipyards that slowly assemble blueprints from blocks are confirmed. (Though we don't know how they'll work beyond that.)

    This amount of mining SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAPPEN. Even a 200-player faction should only need maybe a sixteenth of a galaxy to comfortably sustain themselves for a month or so of active play/frequent combat. This is my main complaint currently - Mining is boring, and we have to do way too much of it across areas that are just too huge. IRL, one planet's worth of ore could probably easily produce an unimaginable number of cruiser-sized ships... Here it seems to take a (rich) planet and 30 asteroids to make ONE.

    This is what I'm hoping for... This has been dreamed of since before the new player model, Pentas, and Tetras... And, with a few more tweaks, it's finally becoming a reality. :D

    Apparently all the people who don't like this are those who just want a quick-fix of building mega titans. Gameplay isn't satisfying like that. Its much more fun if you start out with nothing and work for it. Gameplay>shipbuilding

    Gameplay>Shipbuilding, but shipbuilding, base building, exploring, fighting pirates, fighting other players, RPing, etc.>Mining. I like starting from nothing, but the progression shouldn't include so much mindless grinding - it doesn't need to. Timegates are fine (Shipyards) but not tons of repetitive active grinding (Mining as it is now). And no, I don't like 'quick fix building megatitans' or whatever; that's stupid and I dislike it as much as the next guy. But I'd rather have fun than work - if I wanted to do work, I might as well study for the upcoming world history mid-term exam or get a job at the local supermarket or something, and actually get tangible rewards for my work.

    i'm sure that with starting credits someone can get a decent ship from a shipyard and decide from there whether to pirate bust, raid, or mine.

    I probably should have mentioned that this was the first introduction to the game for my two friends. Newbies just need a faction or finished wiki to help them out until they learn all about how to play.

    The best part of this is, instead of a keeping a core on you, just incase. Now you can keep a ship in your pocket (once you add the parts).

    Is that a double barrel turret in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

    Now see I dig that idea. Because how often do we have a metric glazed bun load of blocks but still only fly around in a core? It'd be so much cooler to just let a ship assemble itself and jump in. For the few seconds of wait you get some protection and maybe even more storage space. Guns of some sort if you feel that need. This could be the basis for micro ships that double as drones. Keep a drone BP in you back pocket and just enough blocks to use it. Take control of it and run some errands then break it back down when you're done. And if it gets hulled who cares? It was a toss-away drone. And if you need to haul some purchases home while you're at the shop you can get a beefier transport and tell the drone to escort you home.

    I dunno all of this is just kinda coming out of no where. I blame the coffee. It's really good coffee.

    I really don't know what a lot of you are complaining about. We use the "buy blueprints by blocks" method for such a long time. Additionally the shops do not restock over time. Due to this the people have to leave their station and go farming.
    At the beginning a lot of new people complained about the system at the beginning but the got used to it.
    But since than there was always one big problem: What if the ship uses more blacks than u can hold in your inventory.
    It is fixed!!! YAYYY
    This update improves a lot of game mechanics and increases trading between members a lot. It leads to more activity
    All i can say is that this update is such a great improvement for every server but they do not know it yet.

    PS: For every server that used the "buy blueprints by credits" method. Now u can not dupe blocks through blueprints anymore!!!

    Almost, you put the blocks in the BP, one inventory slot, then hit "spawn" when you need it.
