Latest Version of the Skin layout, Credit to Sinju for supplying the .PSD to Fix the layout, you can find his .PSD here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/u860vf3gj62u617/Dissected.psd
I highly suggest using that .PSD if you wish to make a skin and you have access to Photoshop, if not you can use the layout to help Identify which areas are allocated to certain body parts.

At the bottom of the skin the Arm textures are facing the same way as seen below. Just note this when making a skin.

How to View your skin in Single player: (Instructions supplied by Sinju)
After you zoom out to third person with Shift+Scroll you can hold down the middle mouse button to pan around your character.

How to find and install a skin:
1) navigate to where you have downloaded Starmade.
2) inside starmade open the folder "Data".
3) inside Data open the folder "image-resource".
4) in that folder you will find a file named "defaultMale".
5) defaultMale is the image file you will need to edit in paint or photoshop to make a new skin.

6) once you have edited your skin and saved it start up Starmade.
7) Click start game.
8) on the screen that pops up at the top on the far right side it says "modding" click this.
9) on the drop down menu click "custom skin".
10) then click "browse" and find where you saved your skin, double click your skin then click import and ok then you're done!
now just start up the game and you'll be using your new skin.
