Latest Version of the Skin layout, Credit to Sinju for supplying the .PSD to Fix the layout, you can find his .PSD here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/u860vf3gj62u617/Dissected.psd

I highly suggest using that .PSD if you wish to make a skin and you have access to Photoshop, if not you can use the layout to help Identify which areas are allocated to certain body parts.

At the bottom of the skin the Arm textures are facing the same way as seen below. Just note this when making a skin.

I hope this topic helps anyone attempting to make a skin, thanks for your time.

How to View your skin in Single player: (Instructions supplied by Sinju)

After you zoom out to third person with Shift+Scroll you can hold down the middle mouse button to pan around your character.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How to find and install a skin:

    1) navigate to where you have downloaded Starmade.

    2) inside starmade open the folder "Data".

    3) inside Data open the folder "image-resource".

    4) in that folder you will find a file named "defaultMale".

    5) defaultMale is the image file you will need to edit in paint or photoshop to make a new skin.

    ----

    6) once you have edited your skin and saved it start up Starmade.

    7) Click start game.

    8) on the screen that pops up at the top on the far right side it says "modding" click this.

    9) on the drop down menu click "custom skin".

    10) then click "browse" and find where you saved your skin, double click your skin then click import and ok then you're done!

now just start up the game and you'll be using your new skin.

Thanks for this, but once I\'m done with my skin where do I need to place the file in order to use it?

I have needed this myself recently, so thanks. (I tried to make my own layout earlier today, but issues with Paint.net and my apparent inability to remember things for more than seven seconds if they\'re involving pictures meant I had the front part of the head labelled as the Back and the back part of the head labelled as the Front).

In short... Thanks! Needed this badly! :D

No problem at all I\'m running on a laptop with 2gb of ram so photoshop is acting up and I\'ve nearly lost my progress countless times :S, seeing as you can test to see if the layout works, once you\'ve finished any skins you make if there is anything out of place due to the layout I\'ve provided being wrong please let me know so I can make necessary ammendments to it.

    many thanks,

The rectangles under the sides of the head are the underside of the head AND the sides of the neck, the guide layout you posted is missing the bottom of the feet and the \"crotch\" area which should be three rectangles just under the legs, and the area where the arms are longer than the rest are the area on top of his body touching the neck.

EDIT: That sounded a lot less harsh in my head. Sorry.

I also have a .psd with the head, neck, body, arms, and legs seperated into layers if that would help.

The .psd would help if you could provide a download so I could check it out, meanwhile I\'ll make the ammendments you\'ve given me, don\'t worry about it sounding harsh it\'s fine honestly, I asked for corrections and thats what ya gave me, thanks mate.

Thanks, I was looking just for this kind of thing. I just wish there was a way to preview a skin on the model without having to find someone else to screenshot you.

You can, by holding Shift and Scrolling back you would see your model in 3rd person.

start using it as a base for their skin to directly draw on, or is it more of a guide to follow? I ask because the picture is 1181x1000 and also it can be hard to tell where some sections end and another one begins with the two different color grey lines surrounding each section. Much appreciated if you could specify.

The default skin that you will want to edit is inside of your Starmade folder but you have to go to data and image-resource. copy the defaultMale.png and edit that.

    1) I notice your skin uses fades you simply can\'t produce with a the pixely original res, so how high can the res be for the image to still work? Do you need to resize it afterwards or does having it to scale enough for the game to process?

    2) Can you shape things? I mean, if you leave some areas \"transparent\" or as the \"background color\", does it affect the look and if it does, to what extent?

Has anyone written skin viewer? I know you can see skin in-game, but starting it up just to see if your skin is seamless is IMO an overkill.

I\'m preparing GIMP XCF file for those who can\'t afford/don\'t like photoshop. I\'ll put it and write instructions later on.
