We all know that build mode is arguably one of the best features in StarMade; but what if we could turn it off completely?

I propose a server configuration option that will enable admins to turn off build-mode on a per-player, per-sector, or per-server basis. Ideally it could also be restricted to "shipyard only", although this has been suggested before.

It could be implemented the same way as "protected, noenter, noexit, etc" for sectors, except with more subcategories such as:
    • Player
    • Ship / Station / Entity
    • Sector
    • System
    • Galaxy
    • Server.cfg [Global Option]
Additionally a "restrict block placement" option could be added to further expand the possibilities in astronaut mode.

    Pros:
    • Enables interested servers to provide a completely different gameplay experience.
    • Makes events of various types easier to host.
    • Allows more complete world building.
    • Toggle-able
    • Provides server owners a non-ban punishment option.
    • Could be used in future updates and user-created "missions".
    • Makes user generated adventure "maps" possible, and prevents "exploitation" of said maps.
    • Adds "value" to ships where implemented.
    • Adds an incredible amount of roleplay possibilities.
    Cons:
    • Questionable ease of implementation. [I'm not a programmer]
    • Open to abuse by server administrators. [But what isn't already?]
    • Possible mass hysteria regarding shipyard only option.
    Please post your thoughts below!

I'm very open to improving the suggestion and finding further flaws with its implementation.

Just to note for anyone reading this after me, that (to the best of my understanding of the OP) this is not a suggestion to turn off build mode for a given ship/design, it's to turn off build mode per player per area per entity type (ships vs stations vs planets).

This sounds like a useful tool for admin who are keen to create RP experiences for the players.

    Go for it.

Can't you make slabs with factories? Pretty-sure I heard that somewhere, never check myself though. If not there would definitely need to be some astronaut improvements.

No, they don't appear in inventories. Only current way to get them is the slider

Can't you hold - in astronaut mode to free the mouse and open the rotate block thing? Does that work with slabs?
You could rotate the block if you had it, but the only way to get the slab in the first place is in advanced build mode. Otherwise you're just rotating a full cube.
