I have noticed, it can be problematic to setup passive (Defense) effects on drones, and docked armor/shield plating. Although you can hookup wireless logic, in the case of drones, it can take ages. In the case of armor plates it may be less work but still feels (to me at least) a little cumbersome.

I would like to propose that when an entity activates a passive effect, that everything down the docking chain will activate the same effect.

Example 1: Mother ship has passive punch/pierce effects. When they are turned on, the docked armor then turns on its passive punch/pierce effect systems as well.

Example 2: Mother ship activates Ion Passive. All drones then activate their Ion passive. Mother ship then launches drones with passive ion still active, out to battle.

A player would have to include the passive effect systems they wish to use on docked entities on the mother ship. A player could simply use a computer and one module in order to activate the effect on their drones, or turrets or whatever. They would not have to have a 100% effect on the main ship to get the same effect on the docked ships.

or be able to switch out modules of different effects, even more increasing the modularity of the game (not sure if that is a word)

Should be optional like thrust inheritance, but definitely should be.

Sounds feasible. Not sure how hard it would be to implement but a simple activation of effects from mothership to docked entities doesn't seem too difficult to put in. I will hold onto this suggestion for future use.

    Okay, a related question:
If a passive system doesn't affect a docked entity, why should the passive effect has an increased cost/decreased effectiveness because of the docked entity?

In other words can we have the passive effects only use the mass of their own ship and not any docked entities, if this is the case? (Admittedly things like overdrive and push/pull/stop do affect docked entities.)

If they do not already pass on their effects to docked entities then that needs to be amended, so long as there is a cost increase / decrease in effectiveness when it's active.
