There is no news. The devs don't release details unless its a day or two before release.

Right, I wasn't really looking for any official details, as i know those wont be forthcoming. I was more looking for what direction people think the devs are going based on previous comments.

Probably should have stated that in the op, but oh well.

I would assume turrets are getting turning speed stats at the very least. There may be more than just the rail system. We may see motors and stuff too which could lead to swiveling turrets with elevating cannons. Who knows.

That would be truly awesome. It seems a short stretch of the imagination to then permit turrets that can only swivel on one axis, not sure why you'd want that but oh well...

I'm really, REALLY looking forward to that, even if I will have to refit 50% of my ships.

With rails, you could create legs. And tank treads.

wow... I hadn't considered that.... I see myself spending a lot more time on planets when the next update comes out :D

first one after the update to design a functional tank gets a cookie!

heck i'll be satisfied with just being able to determine the direction a ship/turret docks

that alone would solve a ton of problems. Add that with a rail system and my friends won't see me for days :)

    Don't you mean rotors?

If rails can be curved, then maybe to a degree, but a rotor would accomplish that task in a smaller area and look more like the desired movement. Either way I can't wait.

    Turrets on rails 0.0

What do you guys think he will do about the docking mechanic? I for one hope he gets rid of boxdims and has it run a collision check when docking insteasd.
Ya, having to "enhance" docking areas isn't realistic at all. o_O

I meant that you could create legs with curved rails. Wouldn't be that hard

I hope we can curve them then. It would actually be more feasible in this game to make a walker with circular rails than a rotor actually. For curved rails, each leg would need to be offset in their timing. But rotors would require some sort of complex programming.

We won't really be building Mobile Suits from Gundam, we'll be building things more in the vein of Multiped Tanks from Ghost in the Shell, or the AT-TE from Star Wars with a rail-based walker. I've seen similar results in Space Engineers. I don't think I've ever seen bipedal mecha there. If they don't have that kind of capability, then we sure as hell won't. Though, I'm not amazingly familiar with SE either.

Rotor accepts logic input. On signal moves it 15 degrees. Of course, then that makes it a stepper motor... Maybe we'll get a rotor that takes an on/off signal, and a stepper that moves N degrees per logic pulse.

I believe half the problem with rotors would be what direction them rotate towards. I guess advanced build mode could specify that though... Maybe pressing R on it (interacting) would allow you to change the amount it turns and if it turns for as long as it is powered on not.
