NASS was upgraded to build_20140316_234639 and none the existing shops became the newer ones with NPCs. This makes sense but it is dissapointing to players.

... none of the existing shops WILL be changed into the new formate only ones that have yet to be generated. Then, only a few of those will have access to NPC traders.

You could replace some of the known shop sectors with saved sectors that have the advanced shops in them.

The problem is that you lose any custom stations you had in that sector when it\'s overwritten.

Get into the station build block, use /change_sector to move yourself, improt the New sector and then use /change_sector to get back?

This is a known missing command or feature.

The only easy way to do this is:
Export a sector sector from single player import to server. This will work.

(dont forget to turn protection back on, else you will have to reimport again every few hours because someone killed the npc there.)

Also the autoreplacement will regenerate shops in sectors that are unmodified, so in case of big servers, that have some sort of spawn building it should never replace or modify anything without manual actions.
