Negative ratings are to make someone think before they post, instead of posting anything to get their post count up. I've been monitoring this system on many other forums, and it works extremely well. Sure people can make negative ratings to someone they don't like, but in the end they're the ones that are going to look bad when the negative reviews show on their reputation.

I may add in some additional options to prevent negative rating revenge if it becomes a problem. In the end this is a trial to see how the community can handle such a system.

I preferr a system where there are only two options. This could either mean upvoting something or not voting at all, or upvoting something or downvoting something. This means someones opinion is either great, average, or unpopular.

Too many options is just silly and superfluous.

This is just my personal view on things.

That isn't necessarily a good thing. That might just put posters under pressure to not post dissenting opinions or critique. If someone is legit out to just spam or flame someone they're still going to do it. We've got mods and the report function to deal with those people, and I'll put my faith in the mods for that.

If someone is a bad poster, people who frequent the forum will already know that from the content of their posts, it shouldn't come from the brand of the beast on their "reputation", but the character of their posts.

I think the forum was great how it was before.

Orph had a great idea too, perhaps reinstating the "insane" rating as positive? Stuff like "insane build" or "insane ships" seems more fitting than mentally insane.

Suggesting! Not complaining. I simply stated that negative ratings should be avoided... It's your choice if you want to see the complaints (5% of the overall feedback) as the only feedback.

We'll look into adding more once we find that the current ones are working, first we'll remove and then add as we see fit. Easiest way to get a feature in is a poll.
