Holy crap, the planets are round. sorta.
I decided to give Starmade another go. GREAT GAME!

The following will be suggestions
Suggestions:
1) I really suggest that Pilot Seat. In the very beginning you start out with the core as your camera. It then gets covered instantly so you're safe. It would make it a lot safer if you had the controlling mechanism be the "Pilot Seat".
2) More apparent effects ( Make them more noticeable and compatible ) I would love to see piercing missiles [They go through and explode in the middle or something]
3) Search bar in the shop!
4) A sound for the damage beam.
5) More sounds in general.
6) Maybe have speed acceleration slow down when approaching the max speed. Dynamic Speed

I looked into what was added a bit more.
Playing with my friends I ended up having to travel for a while to get to a new shop since the trading guild wasn't restocking our shop!

Instead of that, he should add a few things to the game's server config.
STOCK_REGEN = true //Enables shops stock regeneration.
STOCK_REGEN_AMOUNT = 60 //How many units will be added to random stocks every minute.
Or just make the trading guild have ships around shops within the sector at all times.
So then he can program them to restock it.
Or they patrol around 1 sector away from the shop and occasionally drop off items!
MORE SUGGESTIONS
I also suggest adding more dynamic enemies... Like communications. You have a communications computer so you can talk to AI. Almost in the form of FTL. They may start off angry but you can bribe them into attacking a sector, shop, players, and or planets. You could also bribe them into mining for you, trade with them... etc!
Communication Modules can increase the range from which you can speak to a pirate.
This can also have a change in a server config so you can disable global chat and local. The only way to talk to online players could be through having a computer!
I would love some more threats too! I find the game to get boring very fast when playing with a friend or 2. We end up making our own enemies and get bored of that too.
He could add something like a nebula from FTL. Add storms that contain massive fog in areas. Maybe a black hole somewhere? Very rare and will pull you in if you get too close?
Still suggest a Mothership that sends out fleets when you approach.
It is something that people would love.
