    Please take slabs as an opportunity to fix the mapping issues. It would be a shame for them to be ruined by squished textures.
    Yeah some of the other textures while not squished always lined up weird. Very noticeable with hazard striped wedges.

    This doesn't really work (currently). I've tried it before and the results were buggy. Rotations and texture application would need to be changed for this to be a thing.
    yeah, wedging things that are not meant to be wedged is dicey, as the rotation / orientation tends to fight with the "6 sides of the cube" definitions in the XML - what is "up / sides" vs. the orientation tend to fight with one another pretty hard, so wedges are only really viable as single-texture items at the moment.

    Ok Ladies and Gents,



    A new release is upon us. Let's see what we're getting! A new hull colour? wait- lack of colour?

    Dark Grey Hulls. Oh boy!

    We now have (if we count basic hull as separate colour values) 8 colours spread across the grey-scale spectrum. Black has also been made darker and well... more black.





    In other exciting news, i'm sure you have all seen the new hull slabs?

    Hazards are getting slabs.
    Doors are getting slabs.
    Blast Doors are getting slabs.
    Glass Doors are getting slabs.
    Dark Grey Hulls are, of course, getting slabs.

    All selectable in build modes from a single hull block. No crafting chains required. No cluttered inventory full of slabs. Woo!

    This is fun, i have more things that i'm sure you'll love for the release after this too! Come Christmas holidays you'll have so many cool building options! :D

    its a interesting color scheme, so i hope the other two sets come in some way to complement other colors.

    In other points, kupu what happen to those other terrain textures? "blue lava" and others?

    Whoa! Slabs are going to be super cool! Judging by the height of the player and his/her view, we should be able to see through windows/shoot through holes with a slab filling the top half, like a sort of sniping/bunker slot!

    This would also allow for some nicer thinner armour for mechs, as they are already bulky from systems, rails, etc. Maybe also a slab and block checkerboard floor that a mech with the right feet can get a good grip on.

    And also, slabs will be very useful for race tracks. Good for a slope that isn't 45 degrees, given that the racers would have to look up a bit to allow smooth travel up the slabs.

    And the new shade of grey will be awesome for adding another shade to the hull of a light grey or a black ship, to give it a rougher look.

    So thank you Schine for slabs, and kupu for new textures! :D

    This is a good question, one i don't think i have been asked or answered before.

    With the recent departure of some old staff members, certain projects and concepts got abandoned, delayed or will be taken back to the drawing board to be started fresh.

    The terrain textures i was showing here in this thread were one of those projects.

    Do you still have terrain / planet diversity planned?

    Absolutely, yes. We do have plans for it and i will be making new concept art and textures for them. Just not now. As Bench has begun to explain in the dev' blogs and Q&A's the current focus is around Cargo, RP and Crew mechanics.

    I think I'd like pink hull more than dark grey. Nice to see more hull colors, though.

    Oh man, that is awesome. One color I really wish for is this (IDK what it's called):

    Maybe it's just because I build in blue a lot. More greens would be great too.

    Sorry pals, debates on the names of a colour is just too off topic to take up more than half a page. :)

    Cyan / Turquoise / Powder Blue / Spearmint / Sky Blue / Aqua etc, have all been suggested before under the umbrella "Teal".

    I was looking through some older screenshots lately (about the time we got shadows and the lighting overhaul) and noticed that I liked some colors better than what's currently in game. If I had to guess it is because the old colors were darker, more saturated, and had a more prominent metallic shine to them. It also looks like the first release iteration of the lighting overhaul made the game overall darker.

    Yea. I can get behind bits of this. However, don't forget at that time everything had that metallic shine and a tendency to blow out colours in the faintest hints of sunlight. Overall, the lighting was not good. Overall the textures were not great.

    Quite a lot of our colours and lighting had been altered over time to combat such shortcomings in older systems. To have grass look a little less like plastic and hull types to appear slightly different in surface material.

    This is where all the new maps / shader tweaks and behind the scenes work will start to pay off. Now we have more levels of control over such things, we can start to slowly re-tweak and play with colour values and shiny bits. It took a while to get starmade to this point and you've all been incredibly patient as i found my footing. But here we can start to take advantage of the higher fidelity features we have slowly introduced.

    tldr; We took the long way round. Colours and specular values are getting love in the coming updates. :)

    Keep the feedback coming. It really does help to have a large pool of input like this.
