Dead? Hmmm... Not on the dev's part, definitely. The community is at a size that points to about how much effort is being put into gaining mass popularity, which isn't much.
I think Schema's going to wait until the game is all shiny and beta before attempting any marketing for exactly the reasons Qweesdy pointed out; mechanics that are integral to the game are being replaced as they begin to show their age relative to new features. I'm sure that Schema and friends are learning tons as they make Starmade, and often look at older parts of the game and think 'What the heck IS that?'

I'm of the opinion that we'll see a lot of stream and Youtube activity once the game portion of the game is implemented and ship building is finalized.
Exactly, the aim is to test the game, not make it overly popular however that would still be good :)

If a Yogswarm happens, it'll just subside again. This game lacks anything to keep anyone around for more than a month or two, besides building, which is about all (Factions aside) that's kept this community afloat. And people are really starting to burn out on building, too, primarily because refitting is boring. I get the sense that the community will indeed die off, but as long as the game doesn't, it'll come back eventually (Unfortunately a.k.a. Soon(TM)).

I don't think it is dead, it's just asleep. Since it is an alpha it is lacking a bit of content.
People are simply bored I assume because almost all you can do is build and the AI doesn't even have proper dogfighting behaviour yet, once a ship gets in range it just sits there and shoots at you like a turret.
So for me for example, once I have my nice looking ship there is nothing left for me to do apart from building more ships.

You're all wrong. This game is in ALPHA. studies show that games in alpha mean they are still IN DEVELOPMENT. trufax.

EDIT: primary cause of StarMade boredom is that people tend to overlook the community-driven functions of the game (i.e; Roleplay, Mini-games such as ship races, Shipbuilding races, etc.).

Dr. Pi is best doctur. Schema-approved.

Far, far from dead. Schema has been working on this for, how many years now? He has been working on it long before it was even as popular as it is now. The significant evolution of the game recently has probably turned quite a few people off, but I have a feeling they will be back when the game gets more solidified.

You are completely disregarding Minecraft. What is the point in playing that? Just building...oh yeah, some modding, not really any sophisticated combat. Yeah, it will never take off... ahem!

Am I the only person who is like OH SHIT KILL IT WITH FIRE BEFORE IT SPREADS?
Context:Long time ago benzilla spammed the forums with shrek porn and got perma banned. I'd assume he's been banned twice since then.
So, like, ban him again because perma bans are meant to be perma?

Even in Minecraft, ever since Indev (a.k.a. very early survival alpha, post-Survival Test and pre-infinite worlds) there was (very) necessary, relatively interesting crafting, gear progression, an aesthetically and functionally varied set of enemies, relevant resource management, creatures of sorts, AND building, assuming you have built some kind of system to keep the mobs away (which isn't necessarily as simple as placing down turrets in this game)

Also, losing parts of structures to creepers was an actual worry, you couldn't simply sell all your materials and pop a new one in instantly, and you also couldn't magically render your base invincible. As a result, people valued their stuff more and (as it became more possible) started creating sophisticated defense systems.

What does Starmade currently have? A very limted set of nearly-identical space enemies, no enemy NPCs or neutral creatures with any actual function, no real progression besides LOL TINY SHIP NOOB I HAZ MEGA TITAN, essentially no need for managing resources besides possibly MOAR STUFF (which becomes irrelevant with a good enough factory system set up)... Oh, and it has building. Awesome building, way better than Minecraft, but still.

Furthermore, most Starmade players already played Minecraft... Sure, it took off, but this game will have to be a lot more extensive and impressive than Minecraft to do the same. Arguably, just the scale that it takes place on achieves that already, but Minecraft had... a degree of depth. This game... not so much, yet. (One of the few examples of things that added a sort of 'depth' to the game (though inadvertently), namely dockable reactors for large ships, was actually removed for a while.)

The new logic system is one of the first features added to the game that sort of begins to add more depth, more aspects to keep people engaged, however it's currently too small and ornamental to appeal to many people. If it could redock deployed fighters, automate certain processes, etc, that would help.

The moment you start with personal attacks you lost the argument.

... What I said now about it, at this time, is still true for this moment.
    [...]
just pointed out that in the future the logic system might be more optimized and most likely expanded.
    [...]
And in your case you didn't even gave anything to argue about,
It's not a personal attack. You've clearly NOT used the logic system and therefore you have no right to criticize it. Calling it a "fancy door opener" is offensive towards the intentions the dev had when releasing this feature. You clearly have no idea of its potential uses and I was just pointing that out (I never mentioned anything about the logic system being optimized, I don't know where you got THAT from.)

Anyhow it's funny you tell me that I don't give anything to argue about while I'm working on something way more complex (and at the same time simple to make) than a "fancy door opener". That's basically why I said that you'll regret it in 3 months, because you'll have to witness how many uses can be given to the logic system.

One of the things this game could use is some systems with more-efficient ways of designing your ship that aren't tedious or broken. A well-built ship should be a bit better than a few giant chunks of blocks set to the right ratios, but not 3x as effective. 2x would be pushing it a bit. I think that the weapons shouldn't be what does this, though, so that you can quickly and easily refit with giant weapons chunks.

It was a personal attack, might want to think before you post something.

You've clearly NOT used the logic system and therefore you have no right to criticize it.
You know little to non about me, so you have no right what so ever to make a claim like that what so ever.

It's an alpha (gonna hate myself for using this argument) and we are the testers. If we don't give feedback, the game would evolve even slower. What I gave was in short what the game is and what it offers without making it a flame post, just as the game is now.

You clearly have no idea of its potential uses and I was just pointing that out (I never mentioned anything about the logic system being optimized, I don't know where you got THAT from.)
Well if you post something so open for interpretation without clarifying what you mean, don't blame others for filling in the gaps.

You ... you ... just build THE most fancy door opener. I was actually hoping for something that could proof that I was wrong.

I really hope this game does not turn into another minecraft, building your ship is fun but that shouldn't be all there is.
I don't want this game to be another 3d modelling program with blocks ( blocks that might be harder to get if you choose survival).
I read somewhere that schema said that he does not want this game to be a pure sandbox, which I am thankfull for.

But shouldn't that be a feature of AI, not logic?
What is the difference between AI and logic? A computer is nothing more than a (huge) complex logic circuitry, and AIs run on computers.
The difference between a bobby-AI and a custom AI from the logic system is the customizability of the logic system AI.

Btw it is also possible to turn one's ship (slowly and ineffectively, but it still works) using logic, trapped cores, and push-/pull-beams.

The difference is that the logic system can't currently be used to make a practical AI, and the BOBBY AI system should cover all 'standard' AI functions, such as autonavigation, auto-redocking, etc. anyway.

Oh Jesus people are fk'n fighting again...did I hear a mention of Shrek porn? WTF?

Pi-Rex Unfortunately most people do not see it that way. People want INSTANT GRATIFICATION MORE FEATURES NOW NOW NOW instead of sloooow and steady, iron out bugs then add features. Look at Space Engineers, features added every week but bugs out the jacksie.

Schema clearly sees a pattern that he disagrees with in contemporary gaming development: Hey yoo guyz lets meak a game, but release it really quickly without any effort being made and fix it later!!!111!1! Look at the Sims 3; they had a game breaking bug and SOLD the patch in DLC! It used to be that Indie gaming would correct AAA developer's downsides but now it is slowly turning into the SS, DD. This is why I like him, he defies that idea.

Personally I hope he never changes his style, the game is smoother than Barry White, Snoop Dogg/Lion/Charizard/whatever and Gordan Freeman describing silk.

*Edit Morgan Freeman, getting Gordan Freeman to describe something would be quite difficult.

You ... you ... just build THE most fancy door opener. I was actually hoping for something that could proof that I was wrong.

I know enough about you to see that you just don't like the logic system. The only part where I agree with you is that the game needs feedback, but it's not like you gave ideas of blocks to improve the logic system.

And that my system activates a door doesn't mean that it's a door opener. If you think that that's the only thing that creation does you've clearly not understood it, which is (coincidence?) what happens with you and the logic system in general too.

If you want to give constructive feedback, cool, but when you say things that just are not true you will always get an answer of somebody who knows the facts.

"Fancy door opener" ...It's a shame that a feature that requires that much originality and clear thinking gets criticized in such insulting ways.

You're being a condescending ass. It doesn't matter that you are somewhat correct, you are being a condescending ass.

Currently, the logic system isn't good for much. It does have some interesting applications, but the majority of them aren't very useful from a non-minigame standpoint, much like redstone in minecraft was during the early days.

I have seen some useful applications of the logic system (auto gravity on entering a station/ship airlock, for example) but right now it really is a fancy door opener.

Once we get the ability to put logic blocks on the hotbar while piloting, they will become much more useful. We'll actually be able to launch many drones or push missiles at once, or fire our cool "rotating minigun" on the ship.

It's not only a door opener, it's, as you said, an auto-gravity generator, a propulsor, auto-salvager, light system, lock system, and so many more things we have yet to discover. But people like him have to practically call it shit because they can't find enough uses for it. His post was just insulting towards the hard work schema put into giving us a logic system for us to play with.

Yes of course it could do with more features but it's not a fancy door opener.
