Sometimes all a guy wants is a pump-action sh... er, um... A giant robot...

I was working on a new heavy (by Axis standards) combat ship when out of nowhere, I had this sudden robot fetish I had to satisfy. Curse you Armored Core! Curse you and your whole franchise!!!

    Thanks man,

    Here's another goodie for you!

This planetary mining unit is based on the M.C.V. from Command & Conquer. It has a salvager system and the ability to (theoretically) carry up to 10 passengers using astro-tech computers. I could do internal passengers but the unit would have no shields. Eventually, I'm gonna build a another drop-ship and start some trouble on "LV 426"

I'll be working on a series of turrets to fit; including a crane and defensive weapons.

This Utility Armor is an older design based on my "Mobile Gear" space marines. It caries a salvager, astro-tech and a laser rifle. Newer models carry on board storage and an anti-grav harness so I can operate in gravity to build a landing site while my mining ship remains in orbit.

    Nice.

Mine is more of a cross between the original MCV and the amphibious APC from Tiberian Sun. I always loved the GDI units in those games.

I'm working on many things now mate, i recently started a project to make an organic ship and once that's done i plan on making several ground based units (both military and civil), i simply love ground units and structures in SM

I've created an updated automatic public access airlock system. It is available for download as a template. Unzip the file and place the contents into your templates folder. You will be able to paste these onto any ship/station as a fully functioning airlock with an automatic closing door. Note; be sure to turn build symmetry off when pasting.

    - Dimensions: Height 7 m, Width 9 m, Depth 9m (overall). Height 3 m, Width 3 m, Depth 5m Interior corridor:
    - USD compatible; docking a ship automatically open the outer door.
    - Use the activation panels to open the door (currently rigged for public access)
    - Public first aid is available inside.
    - Red light activates when outer door is activated by a visitor using the access panels.
    - Doors will automatically close after a 3 second delay.
    - Template; ready for copy/past applications.

Theoretically, you can password protect one or both doors on this by replacing the 4 public permissions blocks next to the door's activation modules with display blocks then linking the logic output of your password system to ANY of the door's activation modules.

Be sure to rate and comment. That's how improvements are made.
[doublepost=1478547250,1478545151][/doublepost]Now that other players have developed their own power armor, I think the time is right to release my armor designs to community content.

Utility Armor and Station Security are now publicly available for download.

Here's a scaled down Axis Station that I'm building, based on the Regula type stations from the Star Trek films.
This will be my 'early game' station to keep me away from planets and thus, reduce server lag...

Like original Mobile Command System, this station can dock around a small shipyard to construct or repair a single starship (L 170m, W 67m H 49m). Externally, It can dock 8 ships. Over the next few weeks, I'll be working on the interior to create the kind of immersive environment you've come to expect from Axis station designs. Stay tuned. Axis Station 01.jpg

So for those of you who may want to know, my gaming rig blew a gasket on... (wait for it...) Black Friday.

This was my intial reaction after realizing my PC was out of commission...

The power supply shorted out and cut the power to my entire house for 2 seconds before taking out my motherboard, boot drive (with all my StarMade builds) and possibly (won't know until I test it) my i7 CPU. I lost $600 worth of equipment and a big chunk of my most recent data. That's one hell of a targeted advertisement isn't it? o_O

I spent my whole vacation ordering parts, doing data backups and optimizations; only to find out that my boot drive is corrupt and unreadable...

    My Reaction...

I might be able to salvage something but that's a project for another time. Luckily, I have copies of about 85-90% of my personal data on other drives and a 95% copy of my StarMade game data and builds. :cautious:

Word of advice; don't repeat my mistake. Copy your entire Starmade folder to another drive to save your whole single player game. ...or at the very least, copy your blueprints, templates and skins. Back up your other data to a different drive. Then backup your backup to a third location...

My vacation has been wasted so now, I pretty much hate the holidays... Look for new builds in mid January. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go dig a bomb shelter for Christmas.

This is why you never skimp on PSUs! DAMMIT WHAMMY

And now, the tech in me has been switched on. Is that a HDD or SSD? If it's an SSD, then yeah, have fun. But you can usually pull something off a HDD when it goes down.

Quick edit: CPU's are typically irritatingly hard to kill, should be fine?

Nope. I didn't skimp. I do I.T. for a living so I know the value of using good parts. The PSU was an EVGA Super Nova 850 watt unit. My rig was built from quality (or so I thought) parts. But then again, virtually everything is made in China these days. The drive was an SSD so data forensics will be necessary. ...or I could use the data stored in my brain to redo the build from scratch.

Regarding CPUs; Irritatingly hard to kill? I've never heard that phrase used to describe any electronic components before. What poor chipset were you trying to assassinate? I'll cross my fingers on the CPU but I've bought another one just in case. Never hurts to have an extra i7 lying around..

Oh... Well that's not supposed to happen.

It's a funny story. I had an old P4 machine I was messing about with, trying to blow it up, basically. I ended up tying a couple of molex cables into the CPU power connector. Got the magic blue smoke from virtually everything, but that CPU is still ticking along today!

Well, that's one hell of a test... I'm gonna cross my fingers on this. If the i7 survived, I'll have 2 super powered rigs instead of just the one I'm rebuilding. I'll just need to buy a second video card. Anyway, my parts will arrive on Tuesday... Patience, Dr. Whammy... Patience...

    Success!

My new system is online and all data that was not lost has been backed up in "quadruplicate". I've reinstalled most of my software and backed up the operating system in phases using Acronis. I'm going to test it out for a while before I jump back into StarMade multi-player but once the machine makes it past the burn in phase, (roughly 2-3 months for most systems) I'll pick up where I left off.

Being the paranoid, over-compensating megalomaniac that I am, I even bought enough components to build a second PC of similar specs; provided the CPU survived the overload. I think I'll buy an extra mid-tower case as well. This whole process has cost me a lot of time and money but I think I'm satisfied with the result.

    . Luckily, I had both.

I kept it simple this time. Can't spend all The money...

    CPU i7 4790K (new)
    Gigabyte B85M-DS3H-A micro-ATX (new)
Zalman aftermarket cooler (new) (the thing is literally the size of a roll of toilet paper)
    EVGA 700B power supply (new)
    16 GB DDR-1600 (new)
EVGA GTX760 4GB (salvaged). I may replace it if it acts funny...
    240 GB SSD (new)

    a 760? Gah
This is the same card I've been using for the past 3 years. It had way more power than I was using; even by today's standards. My gaming habits are very limited and this thing crushed everything I threw at it, while running 3DS max at the same time.

If it breaks, I'll buy an upgrade but right now I'm going to wait. Like I said; cant spend ALL the money.;)

I'm a patient guy, but even I don't have that kind of patience...

...I would play the game and call it a "stress test."

My stress tests will be Warframe and Elite Dangerous; coupled with single player building in StarMade.

I'd love to get into some StarMade multi-player but I don't want to join a server only to have my stuff deleted or auctioned off because I "disappeared" when in reality, I wasn't able to get back online due to IRL equipment failure.

In the mean time, I'm still looking for a server that supports my play style and doesn't suffer from lag issues. I've been optimizing my ships and bases to minimize my impact on server lag. When I return, I will be an almost entirely different United Star Axis; designed specifically for multi-player environments.
