Yup, beam slaved damage pulses (to increase the radius to 30).

That engine design is something truly deserving of a creative rating, Thalanor. Very nice.

A couple of engines I've built recently... starting small and working my way up to larger and more complicated ones:

A type of fusion engine that provides much less thrust than a full-penetration fusion system, they're basically just an engine that is a cup around a fusion reaction to shield the fusion blast into a backwards facing thrust. Unfocused force. Cheap and basic.

One of my corvettes uses this type of engine, which was modeled internally to include pipes, computers, intakes, tanks, the works (all of which got buried under the hull haha...). It's not a very efficient engine due to the mass used to make it perdie, as opposed to actual coil thruster blocks, but meh... I had fun making them...

My largest set of functional engines on an actual vessel so far, these use red, grey and finally black armor to help emphasise the depth of the thruster internally. The illumination is from lava to give it a naturally pulsing look at the heart of it.

Technically not YET engines (shown here being used as part of a station), these are experimental but will form the basis of an upcoming destroyer I'll build. They have three logic-controlled modes... off (unlit), half thrust (blue lit), and full thrust (addition of bright white to blue lit half-thrust).

I am discovering that the larger the engine, the easier it is to make it really interesting inside... I'm trying to put depth into it so that whether you're looking at them up close or from a distance they appear to have heat deep and inside them, and when you look at them from different angles they have structure within them. When you cluster them together (and later, when I clump larger and smaller ones together like on the back of Venators and such) in combination with different logic-controlled thrust modes I'm hoping to be able to make some very interesting looking back ends. ;)

    Hope you likey.

Well, I don't know if these are rightly considered "engines", it being alien technology and all (the whole ship is basically "the" engine), but here are some (*ahem*) "stern" views of my recently dubbed Diamond-Jellyfish:

That's a very interesting ship design. I like it. It reminds me of Tron a little bit, with the all the crystals.

    EtherEel - IDEAS! Thank you!
    Lenayra - more IDEAS! Thx!

Combine both ideas. Unless someone is aboard all the lights especially engine lights are off. Makes the ship look derelict.

    Ok here we go:

This is prolly my best engine layout.I need to replace those with the wedges. But there'd be no cool on/off thing. And I use the light purple in the back and the dark purple up front to illuminate the gun ports/missile tubes. I'd have to find other colors to work with the do any logic. It's just a fighter anyway.

Wait -- I had an idea? I had no idea I had an idea....
But if I "did" it's not free -- you must donate to the EtherEel's New PC Fund. Website forthcoming.

Sadly I was looking for a link. I have a bad habit of forgetting to engine. Some of my ships have no visible means of locomotion. You've given me one idea to tackle the issue. The other idea, or part 2 of 2 came from lenaya. So any thing i give you i'd have to split between the two of you. :3

I think ill join the fun, while i havnt done the actual engine module and all the external detail, i tried a lot of different combinations with Ice to create a "bloomish" effect in the thrust exhaust. Yeah i know, pretty small, but i like it.
