      Greetings Citizens,

We've now come to the conclusion of our first term of the Council of Intergalactic Representatives. Our inaugural definitely was a learning experience for both our councilors and the dev team as we all worked together to refine our processes and procedures, how we communicated between each other, and how to most efficiently work together towards a better game. Through the council's involvement we discussed many many suggestions, of which some that were identified the council made it into the game. We discussed a number of game aspects to get their different points of views before looking at introducing it to the wider public. Through polls and reports we gained a greater understanding of the community's thoughts on certain subjects, balance suggestions, etc that lead to us being able to make more informed decisions. The council also honored a number of StarMade citizens who showed an aptitude in aspects of the game; from being creative with logic and rails, to those who contributed much to the community as a whole through the wiki, forums, mods and more.

While you might not have seen all the conversations that took place, they sufficiently deliberated over what the biggest concerns of the game were, and through discussions with Schine we were able to address a number of them.

So a big thank you for all the time and effort the councilors put in.

For making it through a full term these councilors have been awarded the Councilor Gold badge.

Now onto the next Term. From now on Terms will be more regulated duration wise, with each Term being 4 months. Applications for Term 2 are currently open, you can apply here and you can read here about some changes regarding the application process etc for this upcoming term (obviously the dates are slightly incorrect for cut-offs in the thread).

Applications will be closing at the conclusion of 2015, with voting proceeding after a short time.

All the best to all those applying, and once again thank you to the councilors of Term 1.

      - Schine Team

Despite certain issues at the start the council turned out to be a great experience, I really appreciated working with the other councillors and devs!

Good luck to everyone that applied for the next elections!

The next group and devs are going to have it rough. I say that because this game is going to need to get more people coming in so it can continue paying the bills. That means you will need a game that is more polished and playable not just as multiplayer and a builder. It needs stability and a single player mode.

Right now the game as some serious competition Space Engineers, Rodina, Interstellar rift, and others coming out like No Man's Sky. Plus you also have the normal space games that don't require building. Then of course you have games like simple planes and the way they build will be the next step to this type of game...

In short they are going to seriously have to focus on game play and making a game that draws people in and doesn't push them out.

Lets remember that the games you mentioned are much further progressed than this game. Those are betas, and released games. This is not even in alpha 1.0. Just keep that in mind...

Technically both Rodina and Interstellar rift are in Alpha.
The creator of Rodina doesn't like the terms Alpha and Early Access he prefers continued development. There entire team profile is listed on their site. Interstellar Rift I couldn't find as much about their team.

Technically star-made has been in production longer than Rodina about a year. The two teams are pretty comparable.

As far as most gamers they aren't going to care how long you been doing it or what stage the game is at they care about is it playable and are they having fun. This generation of people they have little patients and an even lower attention span and if they determine in the fist 5 minutes they are not having fun they tend to leave and tell all their friends that.

Even if you where right on those games being more Beta all that would mean is you have even harder competition.
If you look at these charts and the history of gaming you will learn something. Games that have a good start and then slump rarely if ever make it back up. Games that start out slow with a good release and low issues and so on tend to grow over time. Look at the difference charts from say Dota2 as an example its grown since its release date then kind of leveled but at a much higher level. It had a recent slump because of all the game sells and people trying other games. I'll lay odds on it jumps back after new years. Why simply because most games suck at keeping a person or they aren't intended to. They have limited game play a story line and then people get bored.

This chart says without a doubt serious work ahead.

While that chart is interesting, I question it's accuracy.
I, for example, am not included in that chart specifically because it is steam. Steam screws up every single update and I end up uninstalling before I can reinstall and use the Schine updater. Therefore, I do not use steam to play StarMade. I very much doubt that I am entirely unique in that aspect.

I find it more likely that once people have played for a while they realize they don't need steam and just stop using it.

I can confirm that the chart is likely lacking somewhat in accuracy. I also prefer standalone client/version of StarMade and I usually stay away from Steam.

Honestly, I liked it better before the whole thruster overhaul with the directional things came. It just seems so restricting. I decided to put my game back to 0.19522, it seems to work better.

restricting? How in all 9 Circles of deep inferno is 0.19522 and all versions before not restricting?
Titans can move only forward and take 1 hour to turn xD
Now you can actually designate how fast you turn in each direction

EDIT* let me guess, you never built a ship above 100m? :p

Does this mean that we can/have to put in new applications, if we previously put in an application when the announcement for applications first came out?

No, it's just that having to edit how the thrusters work in all axes is just tiring. Not to mention the fact when you increase the thrust power towards one axis, the other axes become slower. You are trading thruster power and that doesn't help me at all. My biggest ship is 453 meters long, annd it turned fine without the thruster overhaul.

Now I must remember to not vote for master builders, but to vote for the engineers in this game.

You're not forced to change any thrust. Keep all 3 directions on 33% and put rotational thrust on something like 25%-50%. It will give you the exact same thing you had before.

Yeah. I do like the new system (Wait, how is editing thrusters tiring? It's literally one of the simplest UIs in the game) but I feel there just isn't quite enough thrust to work with. :|
