Now think about this, instead of the block power modules and capacitors we all know and love, why not power cables and power reactors. Something similar to that of Space Engineers type of deal eh?One slot for what the Reactor will use to burn to produce power and rest of slots for power outputs.

yeah but I like to engineer my reactors, and also I like being able to build freely without having to worry about having to have one type of reactor.

I like that I can make a really complicated compact reactor, or if I feel like it a really large reactor that does exactly the same thing, but I can built it around something.

also space engineers is shit in terms of create ability in vanilla. mainly because the reactors are unimaginative and actually too complicated to be used in the scale of starmade. starmades power might be more complex, but at least it allows for a wide range of scale in the game.

and again, I like being able to engineer my engines to best fit my ship, other than having to worry about a reactor already in place

I'm not sure a replacement would be welcome in this community, but people are always interested in complete ideas for new reactor builds using the existing blocks. (E.g. Special power bonus if you create a reactor with three non-touching enclosed reactor block cages with capacitors filling the spaces in the cage.)

A suggestion that I haven't heard yet: using power blocks on rails to create a mechanical reactor which the game interprets as a bonus. Examples:
Having a reactor block on a rail sliding between two power block lines to create some kind of (insert technobabble here) power bonus, like one of those flashlights you shake up and down to generate power for.

Having two power blocks on a rotor orbiting around a third power block to create some kind of rotary power bonus, like a conventional electromagnetic generator motor.

I tend to use the capacitors to create my 'reactor' and the actual reactor block is treated as a conduit distributing power through out the ship. Honestly, I don't understand why people have a problem with power generation.

Its not to say problem, but more realistic.

My idea is also more flexible PvP wise as well, reason is: Say you fighting someone and the other guy shots the side of your hull, he destroys said area and exposes (now broken) power cables, so what would you do? Reroute power if you have mutiple lines connected to whatever those power cables would be connected to.

    i know its old - but there were interesting ideas here worth remembering;

Also was this ever suggested ? : Make power and maybe systems blocks 'multi-block' like hull
(i know that would screw current graphics :/)

Multi-Block Structures like Shipyards? Yeah, I can get behind that.

Yes please! Difficult for the game to recognise however. Still, it reminds me of this thread:
    Newer Power Engine Reactor Type

Edit: Just realized this thread was necrod lol/

I do hope you realize, that even reusing the old system with varying shapes is still inefficient for the old system completely, lines will and ALWAYS work for that old system.
New system I likey, similar to Space Engineers for sure! (y)
