The idea of true landing gear is very interesting. I wonder if, in addition to adding friction, if we can get environment-reactive rails. Environment-reactive rails would work the same as regular rails, but would stop their motion or be pushed back on the rail if they encounter any resistance. It would be neat to see a landing gear wrap around terrain features, with robotic toes being pushed up by rough terrain, instead of the ship sitting on a single terrain block or three, with un-deformed landing gear fully extended.

Illustration: In this scene from the movie "Alien", the toe on the Nostromo's landing gear won't crush the boulder. The toe will mechanically bend up with minimal damage to accommodate the boulder, while setting weight on it.

that and it would make for cool shock absorbers for wheeled vehicles so they would bounce around like they were driving off road.

Yep, that would be good too. Also, doors that wouldn't crush astronauts (and something could be introduced to force-open such doors, leading to new boarding gameplay mechanics.)

This is my creation from another thread:

    1. Angle measurment device v. 1 - The Watchmaker
    Type: Measurment Device

Working?: Temporary not because in current dev builds objects docked by rails can't activate Area Trigger Block. But when it will be fixed it will work like charm.

Describtion: This device is designed to gain data about entity rotation degree relative to another object.
It's made from 2 pairs of round shields. Each pair measures Your relative rotation to target in one plane so 2 pairs gives You full data about

It outputs logic data that can be converted to 2 binary numbers in range from 0 to 44 which represents degree of rotation relative to object that You want to measure.
If Your ship is equipped with The Watchmaker then You need to choose target with standard "F" button. After doing that The Watchmaker will calculate Your rotation relative to Your target and will output 2 numbers: rotation degree in XY plane and rotation degree in ZY plane.

    Usefullness:
It can detects if entity that is equipped with The Watchmaker is moving. If equipped entity starts to move then at leats one of values outputted by The Watchmaker will start to change. So You can equipp Your turrets in base with The Watchmaker and make alarm system that turns on red lights in Your base if Your turrets starts to target enemy.

You can also detect if targetted by Your ship object starts to move.

    Single pair of measurming shields:
