I am currently unable to access the Online options from the main menu and so play online. I can play locally however.

The menu doesn't open and then I get a white screen with the following error message.

    Any ideas?

[2016-11-30 22:51:00] java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "javaw" (in directory "."): CreateProcess error=5, Access is denied

any access restrictions apllied to the C drive ? or a Security software blocking Java tasks ?

Not that I am aware of. It was working fine one day and the following day I cannot use online play.

I will check to see if anything may be preventing it from running. I did have a random windows firewall alert a day or so ago so that may be my first port of call.

Where do you have the game installed to?
    C drive.

It has worked fine for months and now just won't work online.

Local play is fine but I cannot even get the server list up. It's annoying because the server I normally play on is planning to reset when the NPC update is released and I need to check that I have everything blueprinted.

    C:/Starmade/StarMade

The launcher and files are in the "Starmade" folder and the game files in the"StarMade" one.

Like I said, this has been running fine for months like this. I was even playing online the previous but one session.

Had been playing in local working on a new ship, exited to main menu to go online and that was it.

Tempted to reinstall Windows 10 and start again.

I give up! I have gone round and round and round in circles with this now. Had three hours to play last night but spent all of that trying to fix this!

I have no idea as to what caused this. I cannot find anything in my computers security settings that might prevent it from working online, I can force update, log in and out of the registry, etc but just cannot get the server list up.

My only option unfortunately will be to reset my laptop back to factory settings and build it all back up again! If it still doesn't work, I'm stuffed!

Try to create a separate installation in a different location.
It may be some security option by the windows firewall, blocking the process from creating outgoing connections.

Usually the windows firewall or your local security software will ask at some point if the application is allowed to connect or not.
(Depending on settings, most of them ask, if not, check their "black"/"whitelisted" applications.)

I couldn't find it on any white, black, grey or even sky blue pink with red spots list! It had been working for weeks and weeks and weeks so the cause was a complete mystery. I am about 30 minutes away from a complete reinstall of Windows 10 so maybe by the end of today I might be able to get online again!

Is there a recommendation as to the install location or folder structure?

One last check: Have you checked your ROUTER's firewall settings in addition to antivirus? Your ISP might have ninja-updated your combo router/modem and ended up blocking connections....
